Soft wall panels, bedroom shutters, TV instead of a painting and more

A bedroom is the place where we relax and rest, so it should not irritate with bright colors or overly decorative elements. We'll tell you which materials and colors are best for finishing, how to create a cozy semi-darkness or, on the contrary, add light.

1. Dark Colors

If bright colors stimulate, dark ones calm down and prepare for night rest. Therefore, designers Pavel Naumenko and Alexander Kozlov chose gray and black shades for bedroom decoration. For example, the wall behind the bed headboard was laid with anthracite brick, and the paint was selected one or two shades lighter, while furniture and textiles are gray.

2. TV Instead of a Painting

Almost everyone likes watching TV, but not everyone likes how it looks in a bedroom. Therefore, it is better to choose modern models that mount on the wall without gaps and look like a painting. For his project, architect Pavel Zheleznov preferred The Frame by Samsung. It looks like an art object that you want to admire.

When you turn off the TV, the "painting" mode activates. One of 450 works by famous artists specially selected for The Frame or photos from your collection appear on the screen. Optionally, you can change the matting or choose an interior frame – three additional colors are offered: white, beige, or walnut. The screen brightness adjusts to the room lighting, so watching TV will be comfortable even in dim light.

3. Wardrobes as Display Cases

A wardrobe is often used as a storage system in a bedroom, but it is usually hidden from view. Designers of Studio Lines preferred to turn it into a display case with large glass doors reaching the ceiling. Of course, most of the shelves are hidden behind the wall near the bed headboard, but beautiful and favorite items delight the eye.

4. Natural Materials

The trend of using natural finishing materials is not fading out. Wood is one of the most popular eco-materials. However, designer and decorator Maria Solovyeva-Sosnovik went further. She used wood trunk fragments in the bedroom instead of bedside tables – with all their annual rings, branches, and cracks!

5. Flower Pattern on Wallpaper

A budget-friendly renovation in a bedroom can be done by decorating one wall with wallpaper featuring a flower pattern. That's what designers of Studio Graaf Home chose. They complemented the interior with paintings on walls and live flowers on the vanity table. A pastel shade close to the color was also chosen for the soft upholstery of the bed headboard.

6. Soft Wall Panels

Soft and pleasant-to-the-touch materials are probably the main elements of coziness in a bedroom. Therefore, textiles should receive special attention. This includes not only curtains, bed headboard, pillows, throws, and bedding. Designers of Studio DesignRocks transformed the entire wall behind the bed headboard into a fabric-covered surface! Using alcantara or artificial leather, you can also create a play of light and shadow.

7. Non-Standard Wall Painting

Not everyone dares to use bright colors in bedroom finishing, so there is a compromise solution – gradient painting. That’s what designer Tatiana Krygina applied in her two-room apartment project. The bedroom is only 13 square meters, but it’s not overloaded with color because the rich blue shade only goes up to the middle of the wall and blends with the textile on the bed.

8. Curtains

It's not always possible to have a separate bedroom due to the size of an apartment. But that’s no reason to sacrifice comfort and coziness. For example, designer Dzerassa Kachmazova placed the bed in a dark corner of the combined living room-bedroom and hid it behind classic curtains. This creates a pleasant semi-darkness and a sense of intimacy.

9. Glass Partitions

To enjoy a view of a cozy courtyard or garden outside the window, you can replace a traditional opening with a full-wall glass partition. That’s how designer Maria Gudukina insulated and connected the balcony in her project. The room became visually larger and brighter. However, such a solution should only be implemented after planning approval and engineering checks.

10. Shutters in the Interior

Light and airy interiors don’t appeal to everyone. For example, the owner of a two-room apartment decorated by Studio CO:interior is a fan of David Lynch and prefers semi-darkness and dark tones. As requested, the bedroom included not only a black bed and curtains but also shutters that provide comfortable lighting day and night.
