How to Combine Classic and Modern Style: A 2-Room Apartment in Stockholm
The decoration of this Swedish apartment seemingly called for classical furniture, but the interior was styled in a modern way, with classic elements added locally as accents. What came out of it – see for yourself.
Eclectic interior is good just because it can be easily shifted towards classic style or made more modern at any moment. In the furniture of a 2-room apartment in the center of Stockholm, modern style prevails, while the finishing is classical: ornate cornices and high baseboards blend organically with the look and history of a house built in the late 19th century.

The area of the 2-room flat is 72 square meters, a large wardrobe and several clothing wardrobes in the corridor are included. However, the living room clearly lacks a larger shelf, and in the bedroom – a wardrobe: it's simply impossible without one, right?
But the decorators from the real estate agency Behrer & Partners made sure that modern furniture, lighting and textiles in the living room and hallway were complemented by elegant vintage sideboards with marble countertops – to support classic style. This added decorative appeal to the interior.

On the kitchen, modern cabinets, countertops, appliances and Scandinavian-style minimalist square backsplash tiles were complemented by Windsor chairs. Some of the chairs were painted in a saturated mint green to better fit the classic look into the modern kitchen design, and the new color emphasized the soft blue tone of the cabinet fronts.

But the most elegant spot in the apartment – undoubtedly, the bathroom. The walls were clad with "cabanchik" up to half way, and the rest of the space was painted with noble green tone paint, while the “wet” zone of the shower area was highlighted with marble-like tiles – the same tiles were laid on the floor. The sink mixer, shower suite, accessories and even the shower door hinges were selected to match gold. The result is a refined and very expressive ensemble.

Following the established Swedish tradition, the balcony was decorated as a lounge zone. Here, some classic elements also appeared, in the form of a coffee table on a cast-iron tripod base. There was even space for a fashionable interior novelty – an IKEA cushion cover with flying cranes. What to say about that? Eclecticism!
