Peaceful Interior and White Walls: Chalet in Switzerland
To spend every weekend in fresh mountain air and go skiing without missing a season, designer Emma Pocock moved closer to the French Alps with her husband and two children. The family exchanged their London home for a smaller flat in Geneva, and in the resort town of Morzine, just an hour from the city, they acquired this charming chalet. Interestingly, it even has a name—La Bergeronnette (Fr. «wren»): giving names to houses was a common practice in Switzerland and its surroundings.

Originally, the layout was a duplex with two separate apartments, and the interior, as is common in traditional chalets, was overloaded with an abundance of dark wood. The previous owners were satisfied with this, but not the current ones. After purchasing the property, some walls were demolished and new ones built, while the dark wood was cleared and whitewashed. Nothing remains of the old renovation.

Emma has her own vision of the perfect interior. In her design studio Turner Pocock, which she founded with her business partner, Scandinavian aesthetics are followed, colors are introduced very sparingly through accessories and textiles, and beige is not tolerated. This concept is clearly visible here, in the designer's own home.

However, some of her preferences had to be compromised for the sake of family habits. For example, Emma does not like an open-plan layout, but one of the goals for the interior was to accommodate a group of ten to twelve people comfortably—family members love having guests. Therefore, the first floor with the kitchen, spacious living room, and small dining area was organized into a single space.

On the second floor, guest rooms can be found, and the third floor was designated for the owner's bedroom and children's room: Emma really wanted her kids to have a room in the best traditions of a mountain lodge. Perhaps it’s not the purest take on a chalet, but definitely cozy and stylish.
