We are accustomed to white, gray, and even blue walls in Scandinavian apartments. But not to deep blues: that's something new and seems rather unwelcoming. Is it really so? Let's take a look at the interior of an apartment in Sweden.

A spacious living room, two full walk-in closets, a large bathroom, and a balcony – this 59 square meter studio in Swedish Östermalm is planned precisely like that, with everything necessary for comfortable living. The apartment's curved walls didn't spoil the design – it was important to play them right, which they did.

The inconvenient appendage near the entrance was turned into a walk-in closet, which visually balanced the corridor space. The kitchen cabinet was designed taking into account many angles and protrusions, and the niche where the range hood is located was tiled with small rectangular tiles. The result: the kitchen looks as if it was designed that way from the beginning.

Of course, it would have been better to make the narrow door opening between the kitchen and living room slightly wider, but it’s already convenient and functional as is.

The idea of painting the walls in a blue color belonged to interior stylists at real estate company Innerstadsspecialisten, as did the overall decorative solution. Such a color palette is not rare in their projects. And for good reason: when combined with high baseboards and marble accessories – trays and countertops of coffee tables – blue looks noble and adds notes of Gustavian style to the interior.

The theme of classicism is best read in the living room. Here, a set of sofas with wide ottomans and an elegant dining table with Austrian chairs were placed around.

A shelf with a TV and multiple shelves was mainly used for books, and a ladder was placed nearby. At first glance, it's not a necessity. Still, climbing up the tall ladder for a needed book is much more pleasant than stretching on tiptoes or constantly placing a stool.

When the interior predominantly features cool blue tones, it’s important to soften them somehow. Here, this was done using milky, caramel, and sandy shades. However, during the time of Swedish King Gustav III, blue was not considered too domestic or lacking in warmth, rather the opposite. It was a matter of fashion and taste.
