The era of pot plants is giving way to much more interesting methods of interior greening. What those are, designers explain

Architects of ArtBaza Studio Sergey and Veronica Kovalyov propose interesting solutions for decorating apartments with plants and explain how to implement them.

Vertical Greening

How it works: Plants are attached to special fabric, on shelves in a PVC box where the water reservoir is located at the bottom. Hoses carry water from the reservoir to the plant roots.

There should be an electrical outlet near the plant wall for connecting a timer. If there is little light in the room, the box should be equipped with grow lights. Vertical greening is installed at the final stage of renovation.

Plants suitable: fern, peperomia, dracaena, tradescantia, peace lily, ivy. For vibrant accents, any flowering plants can be added.

Pros: The system is autonomous and does not require human involvement except for filling the reservoir with water a couple times a week. It also allows effective and non-standard zoning of even small spaces.

Cons: Vertical greening is an expensive pleasure.

Cost: from 40,000 rubles per sq. m.

Aqua or Fito-Farm

How it works: The set includes a small aquarium, a container for plants and seeds of basil, lettuce or wheat. Plants are placed in a box above the aquarium with fish – they use water from the aquarium for growth and simultaneously clean it.

Cons:
An aqua farm is more of a temporary project rather than a permanent interior element.

Cost: from 5,000 rubles.

Moss

Moss is glued to any surface using a special backing. Often, a PVC frame is used that is built into the wall. Moss requires no special care; it only needs to be misted once every few days with a spray bottle.

Moss and horizontal greening can be combined successfully – such a plant wall will last up to seven years.

Pros: Low maintenance, the structure is easy to remove. Moss evens out surface irregularities and retains moisture, maintaining a comfortable level of air humidity.

Cost: 15,000 rubles per sq. m.
