Living Room Design: 10 Best Ideas from Designers
A living room with a sleeping area, mini-office, fake fireplace, or dining zone? Easy! Domestic specialists know how to make a modest space as functional as possible
Living room decoration is a complex task, regardless of its size. Often, this room serves multiple important functions: it's where families gather for leisure, friends are invited, and the living room is most often also a home cinema.
Not to mention that modern apartment owners frequently create a kitchen-living room, place a dining area there as well, and sometimes find space for a sleeping area. Want to make your living room cozy and stylish? We suggest you "check out" 10 interesting ideas from designers.
1. Compact Living Room with a Workstation and Dining Area
When the room area is very limited and there are many functions to fulfill, compact solutions come to the rescue. Designers at Sweet Home Design managed to harmoniously arrange a relaxation zone, storage system, workspace, and dining group in a small living room.
The secret lies in choosing compact furniture. By the way, pay attention: the storage system cleverly combines shelves of different depths, as well as open and closed shelves. At the same time, wall decor in the room is almost absent to avoid visually cluttering the already modest space.

Designer Oleg Mintz proposed an interesting functional solution: in one of his projects, the living room was separated from the hallway by a glass partition. This approach made the room visually much more spacious and also provided the entrance zone with sufficient natural lighting.

Designer Victoria Vlasova in one of her projects showed how you can decorate a quite classic living room – and yet avoid the feeling of template interior.
The highlight of this spacious family relaxation zone for a family with three children was an open wall-mounted storage system. Note: the shelves are not deep, so very little space is "consumed" – yet this solution helps conveniently arrange a home library and various cozy items (mini collections, souvenirs from trips, etc.). In addition, the designer provided a large bright-colored sofa – so that all members of this large family are comfortable.

When you want a comfortable kitchen, cozy living room, and convenient dining area, but there is only one free space, miracles of zoning come to the rescue.
See how Dilara Sayfutdinova ("DA-Design") found an elegant solution to the situation. The kitchen zone was placed as far as possible from soft furniture, received excellent flooring compared to the rest of the living room, additional workspace lighting, and a different ceiling level. The dining area is visually separated by a rich wall color and mini-partition.

How to combine the living room and bedroom? A relevant question, especially for owners of single-room apartments. Designer Dmitry Vorobiev proposed an elegant and simple solution: place the bed behind a conditional semi-partition. This solution helps clearly zone the room and partially hide the sleeping area from outsiders.

Comfortable workspace at home – not a luxury but a necessity for many: some take part of their work home, others have creative hobbies, and some even work remotely.
Designer Svetlana Cherepkova (Studio Moroz) created a functional living room for a couple, providing a mini-office zone for two in it. It turned out compact and quite unconventional.

Specialists from the Geometrium workshop demonstrated how to arrange a living room in a studio apartment – and achieve an illusion of a separate space, despite the fact that the same room contains both the kitchen and bedroom.
Once again, zoning helped: the kitchen ends with a bar counter, and the bed is located behind glass partitions (accompanied by curtains – and if desired, the bedroom can easily and quickly be hidden from outsiders).

It might seem that a small elongated living room is not the best field for a designer's work. However, Marina Sarkisyan clearly understands how to functionally use even the smallest space.
In this living room, there was space not only for a large cozy sofa but also for a workspace. There was also room for a full-size bed, hidden behind a dense curtain from outsiders.

If your family is small, you often entertain guests at the kitchen, and all you need from the living room is a cozy place for reading, resting, and watching TV… A suitable solution might be a living room in a passageway zone. For example, in the Insomnia studio project.
Next to a substantial storage system, a compact sofa and mini coffee table were placed, while a wall-mounted TV was located opposite.

Spending cozy evenings sitting by the fireplace in the living room – a dream for many of us. Why not allow yourself a little affordable luxury by setting up a fake fireplace in the living room? It takes up very little space, but it changes the atmosphere significantly.
See how elegantly designer Nadezhda Zотовa incorporated such a fireplace into one of her projects. It looks stylish, doesn't it?
