7 Reasons to Use Photo Wallpapers Again in Interior Design
Modern photo wallpapers are hard to classify as a relic of the past. The approach to them in design has significantly changed. And we have several reasons to bring them back into the interior
The era of boring and monotonous photo wallpapers from the end of the 20th century is long gone. The design of photo wallpapers has changed dramatically, and their functional scope has expanded: they easily zone a room, hide wall flaws, and play with space. But there are also less-known reasons to use photo wallpapers in interior design that you may not know.
1. Highlight the Style of the Interior
Interiors are often styled through furniture or accessories. However, carefully chosen photo wallpapers can achieve this just as well. In her project for a young family apartment, designer Natalia Yanson used wallpaper with a tree image – combined with chandelier-like lights and a bird painting, it created an eco-friendly atmosphere in the interior.

Photo wallpapers can not only visually enlarge or shrink a room but also literally immerse you into a new space.
It's enough to break the usual rule and paste photo wallpapers so that the image extends beyond one wall and partially continues on adjacent surfaces. This makes the image appear more realistic, similar to the 3D effect of a curved plasma TV screen.

In minimalist or high-tech interiors, there is often a lack of color. A room in monochrome tones can be significantly enlivened with bright, contrasting photo wallpapers. Abstract or graphic images or a single vibrant object on a monochrome background fit well into a minimalist design. Experiment!

Wallpapers with text are not only suitable for teenagers' rooms or creative individuals. Famous phrases, words, and even entire messages can bring individuality to the interior.

5. Add Dynamism to the Space
It's not necessary to decorate an entire wall with wallpapers. Individual fragments of photo images on doors, parts of walls, or furniture can make the interior more dynamic and lively. See how beautifully and appropriately photo wallpapers look in a bedroom designed by designer Arina Volkova!

Strict modern interiors often lack warmth and sentimentality, which perfectly reflect family photos. But if a row of numerous framed photos along the fireplace is not your option, try a more concise and stylish way – photo wallpapers.
For example, in her project for a family apartment, Maria Rubleva used wallpaper with an airplane image. “The head of the family is a pilot of long-haul civil aviation. This greatly influenced the choice of photo wallpapers and the overall color palette: blue, sky-blue, white, gray tones – the space is filled with air,” explains the designer.

Photo wallpapers can emphasize not only style but also the purpose of a room. For example, calm tones and neutral themes work well in bedrooms, while children's rooms can feature wallpapers with heroes from favorite fairy tales or cartoons.
In one of Nadezhda Zотовa's projects, the boy’s room is decorated with Wall & Deco “Man on the Moon” wallpaper. The jewelry-themed fantasy panel was needed as a bright element – when the door to the playroom is open, this wall becomes part of its decor. The color palette of the panel matches the Decora curtains. The theme of distant travels continues with a chest, a sailboat model by the window, globes, and books for a curious boy.
