Rainbow House in Brooklyn: All Colors of the Rainbow Under One Roof
After buying an old house in Brooklyn, designer Chris Benz restored the authentic atmosphere and painted the rooms in rainbow colors
American designer Chris Benz believes that this small house in Brooklyn, which he purchased several years ago, is a fortunate find. The house was built at the beginning of the 20th century and belonged to one family for all this time, so its interior has been well preserved. Just like the garden around the house, which Chris truly cherishes.

"I tried to restore it as close to its original appearance and form as possible," explains the designer. He carefully restored all the original details, and in cases where they had to be remade, he used materials that were common back then.

The colors for the rooms Chris Benz chose according to a gradient: from deep ink-blue and lead-gray to saturated blue, sometimes called "Prussian blue", from buttery yellow and plum to soft pink.

"I love mixing materials and textures, but I try not to use more than one color in a room," explains the designer. "I find it more interesting to fill the interior with expressive details rather than clash colors."

The biggest enemy of this interior, according to the designer, is dust. It's hard to keep in order numerous compositions made of books, flowers, ceramics and textiles. The second issue is finding equipment that doesn't clash with the authentic setting. Bringing life to an old house, Chris Benz does not want to turn it into a museum.
