Modern Life in an Old House: Example in Los Angeles

This cottage, located in the heart of the City of Angels, captivated designers at first glance. The unassuming exterior did not prevent them from seeing the potential of the building, which needed to be made more functional while preserving its stylistic features and charm of old times.

Floors were replaced, old tiles swapped for dark wood, and the ceiling was decorated with beams that were not originally present here, giving it a weathered appearance. For the bathroom, ceramic glazed tiles made using traditional techniques were selected.

The interior followed simplicity befitting a house of the 18th century, with only subtle touches of blue, green, and gold accents to break up the monochromatic white-brown palette.

The exterior was also revamped: the house was re-plastered and repainted, and an open terrace was added. Near the end, the owners requested one more room — a child's bedroom — for their firstborn, who happened to be born just at that time.

Architects managed to complete this room and all other works in time for the baby's arrival, and they consider it a good omen. After all, new life now begins not only for the house but also for the family that lives in it!
