To make a wardrobe convenient, storage systems, shelves, and sections must be planned down to the smallest detail. We tell you what to consider when planning a wardrobe for a woman, a man, and a family.

Today, when a wardrobe can be made in any size on order, there are more and more questions: at what height is it better to place shelves, are metal baskets needed, do women's and men's wardrobes really differ? We share tips on how to organize a wardrobe that suits you perfectly.

General Rules

1. The wardrobe should be spacious. The minimum area is 3 square meters. At the same time, the length of one wall should not be less than 2 meters.

2. The main thing is convenient access. In addition to the usual interior door (hinged, hidden, sliding), many use popular wardrobe doors with guides at the top and bottom.

3. There should be several zones in the wardrobe. The upper zone is for storing seasonal or rarely used items. The middle zone (located at a height of 60 to 170 centimeters from the floor) is the main space for storing clothing. The lower zone is for storing shoes or items that are not used as often.

Women's Wardrobe

Regardless of the size of the wardrobe, women always seem to run out of space for their things. Therefore, they pay attention to drawers, shelves, and stands first. Of course, the other half doesn't forget about an aesthetic appearance – crudely made or plastic storage systems will not pass the face control.

1. Drawers and boxes are the main female assistants in storage organization. They reduce the feeling of disorder and help clothes stay in good condition longer. When choosing shelf height, this should be taken into account.

2. Socks, stockings, and undergarments should be stored in shallow sliding drawers, divided into sections. The length depends on the type of items: for bras, longer sections are required, and for socks, square ones will do.

3. In a women's wardrobe, try to set aside space for a vanity table with a mirror. Is it necessary to do makeup or fix your hair before going out? All the necessary items will be within reach.

4. High sections are unlikely to be useful for men, but they will be indispensable for long dresses and skirts. Secure the rail at such a height that the hem of the longest dress does not touch the bottom shelf.

Men's Wardrobe

There is a common belief that men have fewer things than women, so they don't need a separate wardrobe. But it's not true at all. What is correct is that men care less about the external appearance of a wardrobe than its contents. Usually, they emphasize functionality and practicality over design.

1. In a men's wardrobe, hangers for jackets and shirts are necessary, with more compartments equipped with special holders for trousers. It is desirable that they have different mounting heights.

2. For storing ties, belts, and straps, you can buy special rods or hangers. As for hats and gloves, it's better to hide them in sliding drawers – that way, there is less chance of losing them.

3. If a man is into sports, set aside a separate zone for his hobbies. Space-saving can be achieved by placing this section above the door, equipped with special holders for snowboards or skis.

4. Another important point to consider when equipping a men's wardrobe is seasonal storage of clothing. Men have many light and warmer shirts and jackets – they can't do without garment covers.

Family Wardrobe

A full-size wardrobe takes up a considerable area, so owners of apartments and houses usually don't divide it into women's and men's sections but use storage systems together.

1. Good lighting is a must: don't limit yourself to just the light from a chandelier. Install additional side lighting or built-in point lights in furniture: they will help you easily see all the contents of the wardrobe.

2. No man can do without several pairs of shoes. And women may have a whole collection. The ideal option for storing them is a spacious shelf from floor to ceiling in the wardrobe. Use shelves at an angle.

3. In a wardrobe, you can and should store not only clothes. Bed linens and towels are best placed on upper shelves. The ideal shelf depth is 50 centimeters.

4. Attach several hooks or a special scarf holder to the wall or door of the wardrobe, and for large and small bags, it's better to set aside a separate stationary shelf.
