A floor washer, microfiber cloth, and glass scraper – we tell you how to quickly and effortlessly tidy up a country home

Cleaning is rarely a pleasant pastime, and if avoiding it is impossible, it's better to remember a few simple rules that will make life much easier. We talk with Kärcher experts about how to quickly tidy up a country home and keep it spotless day by day.

1. Tidy up a little at a time

Make it a habit to plan cleaning in advance so that the accumulated clutter doesn't spoil your weekend. For example, set aside 20 minutes a day to fight dust, wash floors, or clean carpets. In this way, you'll quickly get rid of cleaning without ever having to face a full-scale deep clean.

2. Wash floors only after vacuuming

It's better to start cleaning a room with the vacuum cleaner and then dust off surfaces – otherwise, dust will settle again. Clean each space from top to bottom: start with upper shelves, gradually move to tables, soft furniture, and only then begin mopping the floor.

3. Buy a floor washer

Not everyone loves washing floors, but the fact remains: dust and crumbs accumulate in just a couple of days, and the whole house starts to look untidy. A floor washer can solve this problem: it cleans floors much more effectively than a mop, reaching even the farthest corners, and also cuts cleaning time by several times. The machine works like a vacuum cleaner, and if you buy additional attachments for it, you can clean carpets as well.

4. Don't forget to change filters in your vacuum and air conditioner

Cleaning with a vacuum won't make sense if you don’t regularly change its filters. Dirty filters release dust particles back into the air. Don't forget to replace the filters in your air conditioner either: condensation and dust create an ideal environment for harmful bacteria to grow. If you use your air conditioner frequently, clean the filters at least once every two weeks.

5. Use a microfiber cloth

Dust all visible surfaces. Instead of a cotton cloth, it's better to use a special one made from microfiber. Its fibers effectively remove dirt, dust, and greasy stains. Keep in mind that terry cloth and polyester fabrics don't clean the home from dust, but rather help it accumulate in all corners of the house.

6. Wash textiles as often as possible

The main “dust collectors” in the house are textile items: decorative cushions, throws, carpets, and curtains. Try to wash textiles as often as possible. If the fabric allows it, wash at 60 degrees Celsius – this way you won’t give harmful microorganisms a chance to survive. Don't forget about professional cleaning of throws and blankets: this will keep the dust levels in your home to a minimum.

7. Don't put laundry off until tomorrow

To avoid forgetting about laundry, place a laundry basket not only in the bathroom but also in the bedroom (in each one if you have multiple). If laundry still piles up, make it a rule to wash it every other day.

8. Don't multiply clutter

Keep it clean where you don’t litter: tidy up immediately after use. You’ve had tea – wash the cups, you’ve cooked lunch – load the dishes into the dishwasher, you’ve stained the stove – remove the spots while they're still fresh. Don’t delay it for later: this approach will save time in the future.
