LDH DESIGN | Mansion XÚN - a multidimensional poetic restaurant
Visible, tangible, perceptible
Inspired by the concept of atmosphere as a connection between people and space, as envisioned by Peter Zumthor, LDH Design created Mansion XÚN in the bustling commercial area of Zhao Ci Park in Chengdu. Here, tranquility and energy harmoniously blend, combining oriental sophistication with modern design, creating a place that evokes warmth, perception, and poetic feeling.
Oasis in the City
Among Chengdu's skyscrapers, Mansion XÚN represents a sanctuary of calm. At its center lies the water terrace, reflecting light and shadow, soothing anxiety and inviting contemplation. This first element defines the project's philosophy: architecture as an emotional experience, not merely a physical structure.
The Spiral Staircase as Sculpture
Dramatic spiral staircase connects the restaurant levels, functioning simultaneously as a functional element and artistic centerpiece. Its curved outlines soften metallic interiors, creating a sense of ritual and tension. Each step reveals new perspectives, turning movement into an exploratory journey.
Poetic Materials and Asymmetry
LDH Design combines stone, metal, and textured surfaces in an elegant color palette that maintains Chinese tradition and modern simplicity. The collision of proportions and irregular compositions allows architects to achieve an asymmetrical balance reflecting natural spontaneity.
Soft yellow light filters through the grille, evoking a sense of sunset. Carefully planned semi-transparent spaces encourage exploration, blending past and present, order and freedom in a continuous poetic dialogue.
Lunch as an Immersive Experience
The design transcends aesthetics, creating an emotional journey. Open seating areas are illuminated by soft ambient lighting, fostering intimate conversations. Private dining rooms follow a minimalist approach, prioritizing tranquility and clarity in visual perception, not luxury.
Here, food and space unite. The warmth of shared cooking and dining is enhanced by harmonious proportions, ritualistic lighting, and refined scale. Each gathering becomes an immersive cultural experience, where atmosphere amplifies memories.
The Essence of Atmosphere
Mansion XÚN embodies three dimensions of atmosphere: visibility, tangibility, and perception. Through careful analysis and recombination of architectural elements, LDH Design transforms the restaurant's commercial space into an artistic sanctuary.
The project demonstrates that beauty is not only form but also feeling. Mansion XÚN is a space where sophistication, calmness, and poetry intertwine — reflecting Chengdu's ability to blend cosmopolitan dynamism with timeless cultural depth.
