House for Relaxation in Sweden
House for Relaxation in Sweden
The Plastic House II project was implemented by the studio Unit Arkitektur AB to the west of Gothenburg, Sweden. The clients, a family with three children, purchased a plot to build a summer residence for relaxation. Development in this area proceeded so rapidly and the impact on nature was so significant that almost no traces of the original coastal landscape remain. Therefore, this project aimed not only to open up the fantastic view maximally but also to minimize impact on nature.
In the interior of the 200 square meter house, simplicity of design and a sense of luxury were sought simultaneously to achieve something akin to glamorous camping, similar to what was built in California in the early 1950s. The layout of the house is simple and clear — bedrooms and bathrooms are designed with an eastern view, while the living area has direct access to granite cliffs to the west. The kitchen and living room can be separated from the children's playroom using sliding doors.
The house is supported by 19 circular columns. All metal structures are galvanized and coated with white powder-coated paint. A prefabricated wooden frame was installed on top of the steel structure. The lower part of the house is covered with white perforated ribbed aluminum.
