Installation of Wooden Doors and MDF Doors

The installation of doors from MDF and wooden doors is very similar in many respects, although in the latter case, the installation of doors (a carpenter is needed when material costs are high and one cannot "experiment" or redo work) requires more skills and experience in working with wood - it is preferable to keep the wall and door frame as intact as possible. Therefore, the price (installation of wooden doors also depends on the materials used) in such cases can be higher.

MDF door installation is more standard and that is why installation of interior MDF doors, especially when they come with a ready-made door frame, can be done by yourself.

In many cases, the manufacture and installation of doors are provided as a set, particularly this happens during finishing work in a wooden house when walls are already standing or when doors are being replaced for some reason. The door opening is always prepared first: the door together with the frame must be smaller in height and width than the opening itself.

When the opening is much wider or higher than the door frame, it can be narrowed by yourself or with the help of hired professionals. How much this affects the cost of installation depends on the prior agreement between the client and the executor.

Assembling the door frame should not present any difficulties, since any decent assembly instruction will make it possible even by yourself. It is better to assemble the frame on two tables or on a flat floor using the assembly elements included in the kit: posts, screws, etc.

Important! When the door comes with a ready-made frame, installing locks and hinges becomes much easier; but when the door frame is assembled separately from the door, determining hinge mounting points becomes more complicated.

Installing the door frame completes all preparatory work, at this point the layout for hinge installation should already be done. The frame is installed into the opening and wedged in, i.e., adjustment shims are inserted to align it in three directions: width, height, and depth of the door opening.

Final securing of the door frame occurs only after installing the door leaf - the door should open and close normally and maintain all necessary clearances at all extreme and intermediate points.

If MDF doors are being installed (videos of final stages of installation are always recommended for viewing, as they may contain hints on adjustment and fitting), then panels will likely also be installed on the doors to ensure the aesthetic side of the process is flawless.

Any coating, especially when applied to the exterior part of an entrance door, must also serve a protective function: moisture, temperature fluctuations, mechanical impacts - these and other types of impact on the door leaf should be minimized as much as possible.
