There are various types of ceilings. The technology for installing suspended ceilings of different types is based on a single common principle: all suspended ceilings consist of a frame - a suspension system and finishing elements.

The installation process is the same: first, measurements are taken, materials are purchased and markings are made, then the suspension system is installed, followed by the main ceiling elements, during which lighting fixtures are also installed.

The main difference in suspended ceiling installation lies in the connection point of the suspended ceiling and the materials used.

Cassette Suspended Ceiling Manufacturing Technology

A cassette suspended ceiling is a suspension system filled with panels that can be made from different materials. These include mineral fiber, fiberglass, glass, acrylic, aluminum, steel, and more.

Acoustic ceilings are made from special quality mineral plates. The standard size of tiles is 600x600 mm, but many other dimensional variants are also produced.

The suspension system for cassette ceilings consists of guide profiles in various sizes, wall profiles, and suspensions. This ceiling design allows it to be assembled like a constructor, making it easy to disassemble its parts and perform repairs by yourself.

To calculate the suspended ceiling, you need to measure its perimeter and calculate the area, then use a calculator on one of the websites offering the desired accessories. You can also find pricing for suspended ceilings and calculate material costs there.

For greater accuracy, a detailed assembly diagram of the suspended ceiling can be used to not only perform installation but also purchase materials beforehand. By marking the positions of profiles and tiles on a plan and purchasing them, you can begin assembling the ceiling.

Armstrong System

Different types of tiles can be mounted on different frames. The following will focus on the Armstrong system.

First, the ceiling level is determined and a horizontal line is drawn along the walls, which is then secured with dowels and screws to fix the angle profile.

Then, using dowels and screws, the suspensions are fixed to the ceiling along lines parallel to the future placement of the main guide profiles.

To properly install the guide profiles, strings can be stretched between wall profiles to indicate their correct placement. The main guide profiles are connected using clips at the ends, secured with suspensions and adjusted to level (e.g., along the same stretched string), with the ends of the outer profiles placed on corner profiles.

In the same way, intermediate profiles are inserted between the main guide profiles.

For example, such a ceiling assembly scheme is possible: with 600x600 mm tiles, the main profiles can be installed every 1200 mm, with intermediate profiles of 1200 mm length installed every 600 mm between them, and then profiles of 600 mm length installed between these.

It is best to plan the tile distribution and mount the profiles for them from the center - this ensures an even edge on the ceiling.

During each installation step, it is important to control the horizontal alignment and ensure straight angles between profiles. The tiles are laid starting from the center.

A 600x600 raster light fixture fits perfectly in place of a tile, while point lights and other types of fixtures require cutting holes in the tiles during installation.

Installing ceilings on an industrial scale is obviously done by contractors. Knowing the cost of installing a suspended ceiling made from cassettes in a house or apartment, you can decide whether to undertake this work yourself. Armstrong system installation costs from 300 rubles per square meter.

How to Properly Install a Beamed Ceiling by Yourself

Beamed ceilings are made from metal - aluminum or steel. Steel components can only be used in dry rooms, while aluminum is universal. Therefore, aluminum beamed ceilings are mostly used. They are moisture-resistant, hygienic, and decorative (even curved, bent models exist).

A suspended beamed ceiling consists of a wall profile, load-bearing rails, suspensions, and the beams themselves, sometimes including decorative inserts.

Installation Instructions for Beams

The instructions slightly differ from the installation of ceiling panels.

Ceiling installation also begins with marking and mounting the wall profile.

Suspensions are also mounted to the ceiling using dowels and screws. Load-bearing rails, spaced no more than 1 meter apart, rest at their ends on the wall angle and are secured with suspensions.

The main difference in the scheme is how the beam is mounted: its edges are folded into the wall profiles perpendicular to the load-bearing rails, aligned, and clipped between the rail teeth.

Regarding level and angle control, lighting installation, etc., everything is done the same way as with other types of suspended ceilings.

Prices for Installing Beamed Ceilings

Different firms have similar pricing to Armstrong or slightly higher. Installing suspended ceilings, price per square meter for beamed ceiling installation - from 400 rubles.

How to Mount a Grille Ceiling

A grille ceiling is one of the most stylish directions in ceiling finishing and design.

Grille ceilings can be multi-level, have various shapes, including "blinds," or non-standard cells. The installation scheme for a grille ceiling somewhat resembles Armstrong, but has significant differences.

Diagram 3 - Grille Ceiling Installation Scheme

The entire ceiling is assembled from profiles of various lengths, spaced at equal intervals and having slots. Load-bearing profiles of different lengths are connected so that a frame with a 600x600 mm cell is formed. The junctions and intersections of profiles are joined with a special fastening element included in the ceiling kit.

Load-bearing profiles, just like in other systems, are attached to the ceiling using suspensions, at a rate of approximately 1 per 600 mm of profile. Grids made from aluminum strip with slots are inserted into the formed cells. Everything is assembled easily and holds like a constructor - no gluing or additional fixing is required.

Regarding lighting fixtures, special lights designed for installation in the grille are used in grilles, but regular chandeliers and recessed lights can also be used for suspended ceilings mounted on suspensions to the slab.

Cost of a Grille Suspended Ceiling

The cost of installing a grille suspended ceiling does not significantly differ in price from other types. The price per square meter starts at an average of 400-450 rubles.

Multi-Level Suspended Ceilings

Multi-level or two-level suspended ceilings can be created based on most suspended systems. However, multi-level ceilings made from Gypsum Board (GKL) are the most common.

They can be made by yourself: using profiles and fasteners, a frame is built, secured to the ceiling with suspensions, and covered with gypsum board using screws.

This method allows creating the most intricate structures, especially when combined with other types of suspended ceilings, but requires further finishing, is less moisture-resistant, and less durable compared to other methods.

Something similar to a plastic ceiling assembly scheme involves: at the desired level, along the perimeter on walls, U-d profiles are mounted, then the edges of S-d profiles are inserted into them at a small interval, the center is secured to the ceiling using suspensions, and the completed frame is covered with plastic, with the perimeter of the finished ceiling sealed with a trim.

$ Price Question

Suspended ceiling - price per m² of work: gypsum board - about 650 rubles, multi-level gypsum board - about 780 rubles, plastic - about 250 rubles.
