Before and After: How They Updated the Dull Bathroom in a 2-Room Khrushchyovka
Remember interesting solutions and be inspired
Designer Nastassya Dulenko transformed the bathroom in a khrushchyovka while preserving the history of the apartment. The once dull and inconvenient bathroom became a modern and stylish space that harmoniously fits into the overall interior.
Before renovation, the bathroom was a typical combined room for a khrushchyovka. The washing machine, located right there, only added to the feeling of cramped space.

White square tiles with blue grout were chosen for the new bathroom finish, refreshing the overall impression of the space. Patterned wallpapers made from fiberglass were applied to the upper part of the walls, adding texture and an interesting visual element. The window between the bathroom and kitchen was kept and slightly enlarged, decorated with glass blocks. Grout was selected to match the tile color.

The bathtub was updated — covered with acrylic and tiled, improving its appearance and extending its lifespan. The vanity and storage shelves were made by Nastassya from gypsum board and clad with the same tiles as the walls, creating a unified and harmonious design. Bright accents in the form of red hooks, chandelier, and sink add dynamism and enliven the interior, turning it into a modern and stylish space.

One of the key solutions was removing the washing machine from the bathroom: it was moved to the kitchen, thus freeing up additional space. A mirror cabinet with a light fixture was installed above the sink for extra storage, adding coziness to the space.

The use of new materials, thoughtful space planning and preservation of historical elements made this project a successful example of how to renovate a small-sized room while considering its unique history.
