5 super solutions for relaxing on the balcony
We show how to turn a balcony into a place of strength
The balcony has long ceased to be seen as a storage space for off-season items. More and more designers are transforming the area into a full living space: here people drink morning coffee, read in an armchair by the window, work on a laptop or meditate in solitude. Even a tiny balcony can be impressive if you approach the decoration thoughtfully.
We've collected 5 relaxation zones where every detail is carefully planned. Take notes — maybe this summer your balcony will also become the heart of your home.
Terminus with a European view
The balcony is part of an atmospheric apartment inspired by 'Alice in Wonderland'. Designer Maria Tertychnaya decorated the terrace for open-air use: with a view of urban architecture, greenery in planters and furniture as if from a cozy café. The space turned out to be multi-scenario — in one part, there's a rocking chair with a footstool and table; in another, a round cocoon chair sinking into soft cushions. Every corner of the balcony can be used for relaxation, reading or unhurried conversations.
Design: Maria TertychnayaThe background is brickwork, giving the balcony character and making it visually warm. The rhythm of the floor tiles reflects that of an old European courtyard. Thanks to thoughtful greening and accents in furniture, the terrace looks complete but not overloaded.

In an apartment decorated in industrial style, designer Valentina Ivleva created a compact yet expressive relaxation zone on the balcony. Everything is built on contrasts: brickwork and dark curtains meet lush greenery of palms and a bright orange chair that draws the eye. This space is perfect for morning coffee, evening relaxation with a book or a midday break. A small table is handy to place a cup or put down a laptop — the space is compact but well-thought-out.
Design: Valentina IvlevaSuspended lights enhance the effect: their directional lighting highlights the chair and creates a feeling of a secluded cocoon. A great example of how you can organize a lively, almost botanical corner even within the framework of a harsh loft.

Designers from D'Polly studio transformed a narrow balcony into a multi-functional space — simultaneously a lounge area, breakfast spot and place for evening talks. On one side is a soft sofa with pillows; on the other, a compact bar counter with bar stools on elegant legs. Thanks to panoramic glazing and well-placed furniture, the balcony remains bright and uncluttered.
Design: D'Polly studioDetails are emphasized: brickwork, elegant hanging lights and wall shelves with art objects and living plants make the balcony truly lively. In the evening, when light softly filters through blinds, the interior takes on a special, almost chamber-like mood.

Another example of 'European atmosphere', which is hard to reproduce but immediately felt in the ambiance. In a ToTaste studio project, the outdoor area was decorated as simply as possible: wooden furniture set, soft cushions, a couple of cups — and certainly an impressive view of historic rooftops in St. Petersburg. Everything else works as a background: light brickwork, metal railings and coniferous plants grown in boxes create a sense of naturalness.
Design: ToTaste studioThis is the perfect place to step out of urban hustle and simply be present in the moment. An important advantage — mobile furniture that can be quickly moved or rearranged if needed.

On this balcony, designers from DSGN HUB studio created a recovery zone. The interior is built on a combination of natural materials and a relaxed Mediterranean palette: walls are painted in olive tones, wood and rattan are used for finishing, and the lamp looks handmade from dried grass. The area is complemented by a low chair with soft cushions.
Design: DSGN HUB studioTo avoid overburdening the interior, compact wooden console table with a lamp and space for small items was chosen instead of bulky furniture.
