Inspiring ideas from a designer's project

This atmospheric historical interior was created by architect Irina Kartun in a former communal apartment in a 19th-century old house. Thanks to beautiful and original solutions, the apartment turned out vibrant and distinctive. We've gathered inspiring ideas from this project that definitely deserve attention.

Authentic finishing

To preserve the atmosphere of the old building, parts of the walls in children's rooms were left in original brick. The layers of time were scraped off, reinforcement was added where necessary, and the surfaces were coated with lacquer. In the corridor, during demolition, a vaulted ceiling section was discovered and the historical brick was left exposed to give the interior a sense of intimacy and a touch of Gothic style.

Classic elements

In the living room, cornices were restored and original French doors were refurbished. The setting was completed with beautiful furniture, luxurious chandeliers, and rich classical decor—making the interior look stylish and opulent, and ensuring it remains timeless.

Falconry glass blocks

Behind the kitchen wall lies the bathroom. Glass blocks were added between the two spaces to create a stylish look and help bring light into the bathroom.

Beautiful zoning

Using a glass partition, a modern touch was added to the classical interior. This partition separates a small living area from the rest of the space. The glass allows light to enter the darker part of the room, while curtains on the living room side provide privacy.

Antiquities, vintage, and retro-style items

The client is a collector with a large collection of antique pieces that needed to be integrated into the interior. Therefore, there is plenty of European furniture, vintage items, and antiques in the apartment, which make the space unique and unlike any other.

Real fireplace and stove

Originally, the apartment had a stove and fireplace. These were restored by cleaning and reinforcing existing flues. The fireplace and stove became a colorful decoration in the room and helped create an unforgettable atmosphere when combined with modern furniture.
