Hidden Wardrobe: How an IT Specialist Created a Stylish Storage Space in an Apartment
We tell how thoughtful zoning created a functional and unobtrusive wardrobe
Andrey, a digital product developer, lives with his wife and young son in a 72-square-meter apartment in southwestern Moscow. During the renovation of his new apartment, he decided to bring his boldest ideas to life, including creating an unusual wardrobe.
Main points from the article:
- The wardrobe area is 5 sq. m. in a 72 sq. m. apartment;
- Looks like a mirrored cube, visually not cluttering the space;
- Inside, there's a storage system with multi-level shelves and drawers;
- The wardrobe is combined with a laundry area;
- Automatic lighting and smart clothes drying.
Philosophical wardrobe or art object?
"I had a very important task... to make a large wardrobe. I have many clothes, and they need to be stored somewhere," Andrey says. But instead of a regular closet, he decided to create a real art object.
"I decided to make an art piece in the form of a mirrored cube. That is, it's walls built from foam blocks and clad with mirrors," explains Andrey. This solution is not only functional but also visually expands the apartment space.
Overview of this wardrobe: Internal design: Every item has its place
Inside the cube lies a spacious wardrobe area of 5 sq. m. "Here are deep sections of 60 cm, very spacious, like a dresser," Andrey tells. He planned the storage system down to the smallest detail: there's space for hanging clothes, pull-out drawers, and shelves of varying depths.
An interesting solution is a pantograph for convenient shirt storage. "To avoid having to reach deep in, we made special drawers," adds Andrey.

Laundry zone: functionality in every centimeter
The wardrobe is combined with a laundry area. A standard washing machine and an unusual drying cabinet are installed here. "It works with a humidity sensor. As soon as my wife hangs the laundry here, the humidity rises and the extractor fan turns on. It dries all the clothes very quickly," explains Andrey.

Smart solutions for comfort
There is no light switch in the wardrobe – lighting is controlled by motion sensors. "As soon as you enter, the light turns on automatically," Andrey tells. This is not only convenient but also saves electricity.
Special attention was paid to moisture resistance: "The laundry area is also finished with moisture-resistant quartz vinyl, and all seams are sealed with silicone so that you can splash water here without anything leaking anywhere."

Details that matter
Andrey even planned for such small details as storing construction tools and materials. For this purpose, special shelves under the ceiling are provided, hidden behind hatches.
Andrey's experience shows that with thoughtful planning, even in a small apartment, you can create a functional and stylish wardrobe. The key is to plan every detail and not be afraid of unconventional solutions.
