Preparing a Country House for Winter: 9 Cozy Tips for Interior
Summer is behind us — it's time to start preparing for the cold season, focusing on comfort and warmth
You may live in the countryside permanently or only visit the house a few times during autumn and New Year holidays — in any case, the space needs preparation for winter. This is not just about checking the roof or cleaning gutters — in cold weather, the interior needs a cozy atmosphere that can easily be created by yourself. We've collected 9 tips to help with this.
Set up a mini-library
Winter for many of us is associated with evenings spent reading a book under a blanket. It's much more convenient to plan a dedicated area for this. A library doesn't have to be big — just one bookshelf and a regular armchair or rocking chair next to it will do.
Design: Igor and Alena SkarzhievskyAnother option is to design a library on the attic. Shelves or a bookcase can be custom-made to fit the shape of the attic, and a soft bean bag chair can be placed nearby.

Winters in Russia can be harsh, so it's essential to maintain warmth for comfortable living in a country house. Excellent helpers will be infrared heaters — it's easy to choose models that can become part of the design and provide localized heating (e.g., if you know that the kitchen or living room gets chilly).

Tip INMYROOM: maintaining a cozy and warm atmosphere in the house is easy if you use infrared heaters. Ballu has created an exclusive series that combines functionality and beauty — the Invisible Series infrared heaters.
The device can be used for localized heating in rooms — hang it above the dining area or living room and don't worry that the heater will spoil the interior.
The device is ultra-thin — its thickness is only 10 mm, so it's barely noticeable under the ceiling. The heating is provided by the latest heating element based on the patented "heating glass" technology. The GSW series model range includes heaters with snow-white panels with thermally resistant ceramic coating — they fit perfectly into modern interiors and cozy Scandinavian styles.
Want the heater to be practically invisible? The models from the GTW Invisible Series will handle that task — they are almost unnoticeable due to transparent glass panels. All devices have a higher degree of dust and moisture protection — they can be used not only in living spaces but also for heating bathrooms, pools, or saunas.

Lay carpets with long pile
Carpeting can not only make a stylish statement in the interior but also enhance the level of coziness. Long-pile models have many advantages: they look elegant, provide pleasant tactile sensations when interacting with textiles, protect from cold, and even help with sound insulation.
Design: Anastasia RykovaIf you want to play with contrasts, go for bright models. If you're transforming the interior in a Scandinavian style, a light palette (beige, cream, white) will be a winning choice.
Design a winter terrace
A terrace can be used not just in summer. Add some warm throws and cushions to your garden furniture, and comfort is guaranteed.
Eternal green plants in pots, decorative candles, and table lamps will create a relaxed and romantic atmosphere. In the end, the winter terrace becomes an excellent relaxation corner.
Design: Anastasia RykovaOutdoor heaters can help turn a veranda or gazebo into a year-round relaxation zone — organize dinners for loved ones or enjoy sunset with a warm cup of tea anytime.
Tip INMYROOM: insulating a terrace with a heater is very simple, just install outdoor infrared Carbon heaters — floor models are designed in the shape of a table lamp, adjustable by height, and help create a unique atmosphere of comfort and warmth. Suspended models are also available that will harmoniously fit any outdoor relaxation area.
Add more candles
Candles are another synonym for "coziness." In winter, it's a good idea to add as many decorative elements as possible: for example, place a candle with a wooden wick in the living room — the crackling sound during burning will remind you of a fireplace. Or enhance the space with aromatic candles — scents like cinnamon, oranges, or pumpkin will create a unique atmosphere.
Design: Natalia TaminetsvaOf course, not everyone in country homes is ready to place many candles for safety reasons. In that case, replace them with LED candles — they can be placed on shelves or the kitchen table.
Set up a relaxation corner
If you don't have a proper relaxation zone in your country house (e.g., just a sofa and TV), now is the best time to fix that. Buy a couple of armchairs to go with the sofa or designate a spare corner in the house, place several bean bag chairs there and set up a coffee table — the relaxation corner is ready.
Design: Roomba interior SheverdenokTo make the space look cozy, it's important to plan the details — for example, place favorite magazines, chess sets, a tray for drinks on the surface of the table, put a vase with seasonal flowers or several candles.

As we mentioned earlier, textiles are key to creating a cozy atmosphere in the house. During winter preparation, you can buy a few more decorative cushions with thematic prints (e.g., Christmas-themed), a soft throw that can be placed on the armrests of the sofa or bed.
Design: Anastasia StruveThe more warm textiles in the room, the more atmospheric it looks. Don't forget that you can also play with contrasts here — place a light throw on a blue sofa or vice versa.
Design: Natalia TaminetsvaAdd seasonal plants
Plants refresh any interior. In spring, we focus on lilac or mimosa, but in winter, you can enhance the space with seasonal plants. These don't have to be holly (though they can be a great alternative to a Christmas tree) or a real fir.
Design: Alexander Safarov and Julia MusinaFor decorative purposes, rowan branches work well — they look elegant and refined, adding a winter atmosphere to any room.

Winters bring longer evenings, so it's important to plan sufficient lighting. This will not only make the room brighter and warmer but also take care of your eyesight.
Design: Alexander Safarov and Julia MusinaInstall additional floor lamps near the sofa or in the bedroom, plan several lights in the relaxation area, and of course, don't forget the main winter accessory — fairy lights.

The Yandex TV Station Pro fits perfectly into the interior thanks to its sleek cabinet that tightly attaches to the wall. With a screensaver mode, the TV becomes a stylish piece of art, adding an extra accent in the living room or any other room. But that's not all — the station can play your favorite songs or inform about the latest news — the turned-on TV is easy to use as a speaker. If you want to host an unusual party with fun activities, the Yandex TV Station is also useful here: it will display song lyrics on the screen and make you feel like you're in a home karaoke!
The living room was decorated in a classic style with modern accents — that way, our heroine was able to further emphasize the historical character of the building. High ceilings — 3.2 meters — added space, but part of the height had to be sacrificed for electrical wiring and installing a gypsum ceiling. In the end, 3 meters remained.
Photo: @july_arendarThe key element of the living room was the arched window, which literally dictated the design of the entire room. The window attracted Julia at first sight of the property. Around it, they built the entire concept of the living room — a spacious and bright space with classical elements. The parquet patterned like a tree added even more charm and coziness.
Photo: @july_arendarAs we said, Julia and her husband chose a classical interior with moldings and ceiling cornices. However, to add dynamics and freshness, they introduced modern accents. This included futuristic armchairs, a checkered carpet, and vibrant posters. The combination of modernity created a space with character.
Photo: @july_arendarThe main elements of furniture (sofa, TV unit) were carefully chosen to match the concept. Julia advises not to be afraid to experiment with decor. For example, she created a picture for the living room herself: ordered a poster, selected an aged frame, and added acrylic glass. This picture became a unique accent in the interior.
