Use the wardrobe as an accent, hide it behind curtains and more

In small apartments, storage becomes a pressing issue: you need to distribute a large number of items without overloading the rooms with huge wardrobes. The solution is a wardrobe, but will there be enough space in a compact apartment? Our heroes have proven that a wardrobe does not necessarily require a large area—just smart planning and a bit of imagination.

We share the most interesting ideas for organizing a wardrobe in a small apartment—get inspired and take notes.

Wardrobe in the Place of a Bay Window

The area of this studio is 36 m², and its architectural features include an arched window with unusual glazing and a bay window for the bed. The designers Irina Primak and Anna Kudrina decorated the wardrobe in the bay window area: they left the walls in a light color matching the bedroom, added many shelves and a stylish chair. They didn't install doors: the wardrobe is hidden behind luxurious velvet curtains.

This solution allowed moving all storage into the wardrobe: only hooks remain in the entryway. Thanks to the curtains, there is no visual clutter in the room, but the wardrobe can be left open if desired. By the way, if you wish, you can always play with contrasts and choose more vibrant textiles.

Wardrobe as a Hidden Accent

The owner of a 42 m² studio wanted to plan as much storage space as possible. In the bedroom, hidden behind a glass partition, there was room for a wardrobe. The space more resembles a magical closet from a fairy tale: designer Alla Senichueva deliberately created this effect.

All the walls in the apartment are painted with the same paint, but the wardrobe features an accent wall covered with wallpaper decorated with birds. They inspired the original color palette—combination of pink and green tones in a light bedroom. When the wardrobe is open, it seems as if there is a special world hidden inside.

Tip from INMYROOM: In a wardrobe, it's good to find space for care appliances—indispensable helpers in daily life. Remember: a separate storage area for items is an investment in personal comfort. The same applies to the smart Ixeo Power 3 in 1 iron from Tefal—it will help you gently care for clothing and maintain order at home. Even in a small wardrobe, space can be saved: it's much more practical to install one high-tech system instead of an iron, steamer, ironing board, and other devices.

Ironing will always be convenient, and the result perfect. Thanks to the three-position ironing board, it can be fixed in vertical or horizontal positions, as well as at a 30° angle. Steam any item effortlessly—from pajamas and pants with arrows to household textiles.

Caring for items will no longer be a long and tiring process: the system heats up in just 70 seconds. Powerful steam removes wrinkles at an incredible speed—just a few movements and you're ready to go out in the world.

Homeowners know that items made of cotton or silk can easily be damaged during ironing. The Ixeo Power 3 in 1 ensures gentle care for any fabric type. The device has three steam modes: it creates a safe temperature and steam pressure—delicate materials are smoothly ironed. But that's not all: with powerful steam, clothes become fresh in just a moment—steam cleaner eliminates 99.9% of microbes and bacteria, as well as unpleasant odors.

Wardrobe Behind Blinds

The client approached designer Alexander Kryuchkov with a request to design a calm apartment without unnecessary details in the Scandinavian style. After a redesign of a 46 m² space, a wardrobe was added: it was hidden in the bedroom behind floor-to-ceiling blinds, which visually raised the ceiling and provided beautiful lighting.

For storage, they preferred an open shelf and rod system, added a chest of drawers—this is where bedding or other items can be stored. The door solution deserves attention: budget-friendly options are available on the market, which can easily be painted in a desired shade or left in the wood texture of the interior.

Wardrobe Behind Bright Curtains

Designers Anna Kozlova and Venera Teregulova from Via Interior Buro created a 46 m² two-bedroom project for rent: you won't find bulky wardrobes here—the storage has been moved to the wardrobe. Arches and circles—a technique that designers used throughout the apartment, and the wardrobe is no exception.

The space complements the overall style and serves as an accent thanks to yellow curtains. Notice how the textiles echo the color of the bed headboard, creating a harmonious combination. Standard wardrobes were installed in the wardrobe, and ventilation was also provided. The area is compact yet very stylish.

Tip from INMYROOM: If you are decorating a wardrobe behind curtains, care for them, as with other textiles in the home. Once again, help comes from Tefal's Ixeo Power 3 in 1 system: it is excellent for steaming and disinfecting curtains and soft furnishings, bedding, and other textiles. You don't need to remove the curtains to steam them—the detachable base allows comfortable ironing of desired items anywhere in your apartment.

In this device, water is converted into steam and delivered under pressure to the iron. Thanks to this, no droplets remain that could damage the item. Manufacturers have considered not only functionality but also aesthetics—the stylish design of the system fits into any interior.

Wardrobe as a Large Hidden System

Designer Yana Volkova decorated a tiny 28 m² studio for herself, focusing on functionality. Of course, it's hard to set aside a separate room in such an apartment for a wardrobe, and Yana came up with a great hack—storage system along one of the walls. Everything is hidden behind it—from wardrobes to a workspace.

If you think the designer has little clothing, we're here to reassure you: 50 pairs of shoes fit in the footwear section. Another area was dedicated to upper garments, and a mobile ladder was made for access to the upper sections. As a result, the hidden system became an organic part of the design.

Wardrobe Behind the Bed Headboard

Another great example is the project from ArtBaza.studio, which fitted a wardrobe in a 36 m² space. As a result of the redesign, the kitchen, living room, and bedroom were combined into one living zone. A full wardrobe is hidden at the end of the room behind the bed headboard—a separate, well-thought-out area without doors.

Shelves, open and closed shelves, and a rail system were installed inside. Access to the wardrobe is easy, while maintaining a sense of unified space. They achieved airiness through a light palette, but the wardrobe was decorated in dark tones—it matches the textiles and accent elements (e.g., TV zone).
