House from Scratch in 30 Days: All Details of the First Construction Phase

We have prepared an interesting and, most importantly, useful project. You will see how to build a modular house for the winner of the Avito competition in just 30 days: we will describe every step in detail—from choosing a plot to decoration. The first stage is the most critical. We are looking for a plot, laying the foundation, drilling wells, and installing a septic tank.

About the Plot

The owner of the plot and the winner of the Avito competition, Mikhail, chose it due to transport accessibility and proximity to the forest. However, for our modular house, there are other important factors to consider: access roads (paved surfaces), presence of power lines—machines must have free access. This will be more convenient in the future for residents—the house is planned to be rented out via Avito Real Estate.

Laying the Foundation

Since the modular house is wooden, it doesn't weigh much, and there's also an option to create a reinforced base—contractors settled on a lightweight foundation, placing piles not too frequently. After driving the piles into the ground, they cut them off, made caps, and laid timber beams for the foundation.

Installing the Septic Tank

Preparation for septic tank installation was not required in advance: the pile foundation allows this. The crew dug a pit 30–40 cm larger than the septic tank itself, filled it with sand, and also provided a drainage path for clean water.

Drilling Wells for the Cesspool

The cesspool (a container where the equipment for drilling a well that supplies water to the house is installed) was lowered to a depth of 2 meters: the pipe runs from the point of ground freezing (approximately 1.5 meters). During drilling, we also saw the water level—this allows determining how deep to lower the pump.

Tip:

It’s better to drill wells during periods when the weather is not yet cold—otherwise, the water may freeze and complicate the process significantly.
