Added to the list of outdated solutions it's time to forget

Experts from the design studio 'ArtMonopoly' have already told you what is no longer relevant in 2022. Read the first part of the article here. Today designers will name another 7 antitrends.

Interior doors with glass inserts and strips

Will definitely not decorate your interior. It's better to abandon them in favor of minimalist solid veneered doors or choose paint that matches the wall color or invisible doors for painting. As for height, doors to the ceiling always look designerly. There are no problems finding such doors now. Suppliers offer doors up to 2.60 meters or even 3 meters high. Sometimes such models are made with standard height, and the space above is covered with a decorative panel in door finish: when closed, the door looks as if it reaches to the ceiling.

Multi-layered curtains

Curtains can easily ruin the design of any room. Trends in curtains also lean towards minimalism. There is no longer a need to use sheer, blackout linings, outer drapes, not mentioning pleats and valances. Even from modern fabric. Such solutions will make the window area heavier, more complex, and outdated. It's better to choose one curtain — it can immediately have blackout function. Also, roller blinds are becoming more and more popular among designers. In the living room, if you don't like windows without curtains at all, a single light veil that matches the style is enough. And all curtains must have sufficient length. If we are talking about drapes or veils, they should definitely be hemmed to the floor (plus or minus 1–2 cm).

Furniture sets

Even in classic interiors, which often require symmetry, designers now select furniture from different manufacturers and collections. This makes the atmosphere more complex and interesting. Even if the interior is classic, we recommend using furniture with similar shapes or creating symmetry from a central axis by using identical chairs but a different sofa.

Chairs for dining sets are often chosen differently, arranged in pairs or placed from another collection at the head of the table.

Having a living room set from one collection will completely negate all design efforts. Often the same problem can arise when selecting lighting. Much more subtle work is required — to choose light for different scenarios from various manufacturers, but in one stylistic direction rather than simply hanging a wall sconce, central light fixture and floor lamp from the same collection. The image will become flat and resemble a factory catalog page.

Furniture walls

Any complex furniture structure burdens the interior. We don't even mean those Czechoslovakian design pieces that were a pride of every family in the Soviet Union. Many furniture manufacturers still have modern furniture walls today. Yes, they are not full wall coverage and made from modern materials. But such interior items will definitely not become a decoration and will ruin your living room.

The storage problem (which was acute in Soviet apartments) can now be solved by other methods: built-in wardrobes, compact walk-ins, interesting sideboards and dressers. For books, it's better to use separate shelves, and for dishes — buffets in the kitchen or dining area. In a living room, a console or TV stand and light shelves will be sufficient.

Brick in finishing

In 90% of cases, it looks unnatural, cheap, and inappropriate. If you want brick in your apartment to look beautiful and expensive, don't buy the cheapest tile available. Ideally, it's great if the brick in your interior is local. If you're buying brick for finishing, choose complex tiles with good texture and color, a rich number of elements. Be especially careful if you have external corners finished with brick.

Loft

In general, loft is almost no longer in demand; the style has largely become outdated and unfashionable. It requires a specific stylistic approach in communications and lighting, high ceilings, large windows, original brickwork, furniture that fits the style perfectly. To avoid a parody, it's better to abandon this style if you own an apartment with standard features in a new building.

Columns in apartments

Just don't do it. Believe us. You won't be able to make a Versailles palace on such scale, and modern interior items will clash terribly. The interior will look cartoonish.
