5 Mistakes to Avoid When Decorating a Small Apartment
Pro tips on what not to do
Decorating a small apartment always involves many challenges. It's important not to make mistakes in details, otherwise there is a risk of creating an uncomfortable environment.
Designer Victoria Pashinskaya shared with us five common mistakes when decorating a small apartment and explained how to avoid them.
1. Using Dark Tones
Walls can be dark in color only if light furniture is used. Otherwise, the room will become too gloomy. It's even better to use darker colors only in some areas — this helps create contrast.

2. Wallpaper with Small or Large Patterns on All Walls
Walls fully covered with wallpaper featuring microscopic or giant prints look absurd. It's better to decorate only part of the wall with it. To visually expand the room, the wall opposite the window or perpendicular to it can be tiled with mirror tiles with facets.

3. Heavy Furniture and Cabinets with Solid Doors
Clumsy furniture only reduces the space in a living area, so it's better to choose pieces in light shades. Open storage systems and furniture with glass doors will also look great.

4. Too Much Furniture
Multi-functional furniture is ideal for small apartments — this way the room won't be cluttered. For example, instead of a bed and sofa, consider buying a convertible sofa to save space.

5. Too Many Small Accessories Throughout the Apartment
An interior of a small apartment can easily become cluttered with various small items. That’s why it's better to choose curtains and rugs in solid colors.
