Don't Do This: 6 Cleaning Mistakes Everyone Makes
Simple tips that save your time
If you think you clean your home quickly and efficiently, we recommend reviewing our list of mistakes. You might not even realize that you are doing some things incorrectly, which actually prolongs the cleaning process. Let's take a look at ineffective techniques and how to replace them to save precious time.
1. Cleaning Without a System
The main rule in cleaning is having a clear plan. Otherwise, you'll grab everything at once, do multiple tasks simultaneously, and constantly get distracted from the process. As a result, you'll become very tired and end up with even more clutter in your apartment.

How to do it right: stick to three main principles.
- Decluttering — first, clear all surfaces and get rid of unnecessary items.
- Cleaning from top to bottom — wash all surfaces starting from height: first cabinets, light fixtures, and curtains, then shelves, tables, sofa, and chairs. Mop the floor last.
- Circular motion — follow one chosen direction and tidy up the room clockwise or counterclockwise.
2. Using One Cloth for Everything
This is a well-known fact, but it’s worth repeating. You must not wipe dust with the same cloth you just used to clean the sink, dishes, tiles, etc.

How to do it right: each task should have its own cleaning tools and products suited for specific surfaces. Otherwise, you may end up with mirrors with water spots or taps with stains that are hard to remove. Also, remember to stretch and dry the cloths thoroughly after every cleaning session.
3. Wiping Dust Before Vacuuming
To avoid repeating the same work twice, always do dry cleaning before wet cleaning. Wipe dust from furniture with a microfiber or wool cloth, possibly using anti-static products.

How to do it right: after vacuuming, don't immediately mop the floor. Wait for the finest dust particles to settle. For this, take a short break and organize another room or load the washing machine. By the way, it's better to iron and change bedding before wet cleaning.
4. Cleaning the Vacuum Filter After Cleaning
Make it a habit to clean the vacuum filter before cleaning. Because with a clogged filter, you lose suction power and cleaning quality. Also, an overloaded vacuum will start dispersing dust into the air again, which then settles back onto surfaces.

5. Applying Cleaning Products Directly to Surfaces
Always follow the instructions when using any cleaning product, or you might damage furniture and decor items. Dampen a dry cloth with the cleaning solution and only then wipe the surface.
Don't overuse cleaning agents. Everything should be in moderation. Otherwise, you risk not only damaging furniture and floor coatings but also causing poisoning or allergies in people. Always wipe off excess product with a clean cloth afterward. This is especially important when cleaning mirrors, glass, wood, and stainless steel surfaces. Doing so will help them stay clean and shiny for longer.

6. Using Dusting Brushes
Beautiful colorful dust brushes do more harm than good. They don't collect dust; instead, they lift and scatter it into the air. It then settles back on all surfaces.
