Antitrends in Interior Design - 2021: What to Avoid
Cold monochrome schemes, lofts, pink velvet poufs and several outdated interior solutions that it's time to say goodbye to in 2021. Designer's perspective

All-white kitchens
It's much harder to style a fully white or grey kitchen than it seems. Moreover, contrary to popular belief, such a color scheme removes volume from the space. To restore this volume through textures, expert help is necessary.
However, in 2021, all-white kitchens give way to vibrant combinations. For example, choose white as the background and make furniture and decor bright and saturated accents.

"Bunny" tiles
In the new year, "Scandinavian mood" - "bunny" and "pine tree" tiles are replaced with monochromatic planes, vertical patterns, marble-like prints, square tiles with narrow grout lines and matching grout.
If your kitchen already has "bunny" tiles, pay attention to unconventional laying methods.

Pink interiors
In 2018, millennial pink or simply powder pink, previously only acceptable in children's rooms, became the most fashionable shade of the year.
Currently, velvet pink interiors are more of a norm than an innovation. Fresh solutions for 2021 will be orange, yellow and green.

Interior and exterior dissonance
Some interior styles require a fitting "surrounding environment." For example, the chalet style suits a mountain house, while loft suits former shoe factory apartments. Agree, such styles are absurd and inappropriate for a typical apartment.
An interior looks more effective when it matches the architecture of the space, making all details work together and form a cohesive environment.

Tropical prints
Wallpapers with tropical plant patterns exited fashion as abruptly and unexpectedly as travel in 2020.
Currently, designers often use furniture with plant motifs upholstery - floral or coniferous.

Open floor plans
This approach was very popular with both designers and their clients.
However, the pandemic showed that such floor plans have not only advantages but also downsides. It's very hard to hide in them - you'll need to resort to arches, shelves and screens.

Only new furniture
Global overproduction taught us to value individuality and think about moderate consumption.
In projects, there is more vintage or pieces with history. A memorable vase from grandmother or a carpet from a Moroccan bazaar - the most heartfelt trend of 2021.
