Large Corridor and Balcony on the Kitchen. What to Do with Useless Meters?

Designer Maria Bezrukova is used to working with 'dead zones' in the layout. So much so that she easily turned a 40-meter studio into a spacious two-bedroom apartment. We tell how she did it.

‘Cutting off’ Part of the Corridor

To create space for work and relaxation in the apartment, Maria decided to get rid of the unnecessary corridor that took up nearly seven square meters.

Thus, by adding additional partitions, she turned one room into two: a separate bedroom and living room.

Demolish the Balcony Panel

Instead of standard plastic balcony doors on the kitchen, two full-height glass doors were installed. This solution provides more light and adds a unique touch to the interior.

Add French Doors to the Interior

To avoid making the apartment feel dark due to additional partitions, Maria designed window openings in the walls. The French doors bring in more light and serve as a main 'landmark' of the apartment.

Use Glossy Surfaces

In addition to French doors and glass partitions, the interior features many glossy elements.

The coffee table and vases in the living room, the kitchen cabinet, and the pouf in the bedroom all reflect light, making the space visually larger.

For Decoration – Bright Accents

Aside from the bright red sofa in the living room and the accent blue wall in the bedroom, the designer used a neutral background – truffle-colored walls.

The color palette is varied with bright posters – an excellent choice for decoration in small spaces.
