HooksWith a wow effect, optical illusions with mirrors, and 8 more great tricks: keep and use in your own entryway

If you can't increase the size of the entrance area (or if there's simply no need to do so), you can always make it brighter, stylish, and creative. We explain how.

Decorate the entryway in a total white palette

In small entryways, it's often dark during the day. White walls, furniture, and decor can help fix this situation. Plus, it looks great and is Instagram-worthy: see for yourself in this project example.

The downside: white entry areas are noticeable, but if you're a clean freak and live without children, you likely won't face any cleanliness issues.

Or, conversely, add colors

This approach, on the contrary, helps mask small dirt: in Evgenia Postukhova's project, it's almost impossible to see the dirt on the tropical-patterned wallpaper.

Enhance the entrance door with a tall threshold

Designers at Anddesign know: a tall threshold makes the door look more expensive. You can go further and make the entrance an accent point against white walls. But even on a neutral background, this trick with a tall threshold works perfectly.

Lay artificial grass instead of a mat

It sounds strange, but let's take a look at the entryway in David Aksenov's apartment. The idea came about like this: they bought a hanger, but it looked boring to the designer, so they added artificial grass to it. The leftover material was placed on the floor as a mat.

Tile the wall with a mirror panel

Because this visually expands even the tiniest entryway — confirmed! Photo proof: the entrance area in Polina Marchenko's project.

You can also complement the mirror wall with a couple of floating shelves — then you’ll get twice as much light.

Or hang a mirror directly on the door

If there's no space for a full-height mirror, as in this case.

Consider the convenience of console tables with reduced depth

Models that are 25–30 cm deep, like in Elena Karasayeva's project, don’t take up space and solve the issue of having a place to drop keys and mail. You can also put pictures and decor on the console table.

Complete the entryway with a compact shelf

We're not sure if it's convenient to use constantly, but as a stylish option for temporary housing, like in Elina Bogomolova's project, or for the duration before a major renovation — it’s exactly what you need.

If hooks, then accent ones

For example, large, contrasting, and various sizes, like in Natalia Aksenova's project.

Or with ironic design

Hook-fingers in Dina Udaltsova's project or any other ironic details will create a wow effect in the interior and surely draw attention away from the tightness.
