Learned from professionals about the most commonly chosen materials and their pros and cons

When choosing a kitchen countertop, it's important to consider not only price and appearance but also practicality and durability. We asked a designer about the advantages and disadvantages of different materials.

If you cook frequently, choose a more practical material; if rarely — use a simpler option.

Artificial Stone

The most durable and long-lasting of all materials. Additionally, elements can be joined seamlessly, creating a beautiful and monolithic countertop.

Artificial stone is easy to maintain, and if needed, it can be restored through polishing. You'll also be pleased by the variety of textures and color options, which can rival natural materials.

Ceramic Granite

Another reliable and practical material: it does not absorb moisture, and oil or grease stains do not remain on the surface. You don't need to worry about chips or cracks — ceramic granite is very strong. The countertop will remain intact even after years of use.

Granite

Perfect for lovers of natural materials: it is resistant to scratches, high temperatures, and chemicals. You don't need to worry about cutting food, spilling coffee accidentally, or placing a hot pot on the surface.

No wonder granite is so popular in America — almost every home has such a countertop. The material is reliable, long-lasting, and beautiful.

Marble

In my projects, I never choose marble, even though it looks beautiful in interior design. It's better to opt for a high-quality imitation, as natural material will lose its appearance over time. Stains from food remain on it, and eventually the material begins to crumble.

Wood

Less practical compared to natural or artificial stone. You cannot place hot items directly on a wooden countertop — special trivets are required. The material is also easily scratched and requires special care.

Wood Veneer

Wood veneered countertops, coated with lacquer, are also unreliable. Damage, chips, and scratches are inevitable, and defects can only be fixed in factory conditions. You’ll have to pay as if you were buying a new item.
