Decorating a Small Bedroom: 5 Tips from Projects
We tell you how to add air to the space and visually make a bedroom bigger than it actually is
Small bedrooms usually don't look very cozy — almost all the space is taken up by a bed and a wardrobe, leaving little free room. To avoid feeling cramped, always refer to interior design projects — they can provide any solution you need.
Choose Light Tones
This simple trick can add lightness to a tight space. You can paint the walls and ceiling white to visually blur the boundaries of the room.
However, this is not mandatory — for example, in Anastasia Vishnevskaya's project, the ceiling is decorated with barn beams and a pendant light. It might seem like not the best idea for a small bedroom, but thanks to light matte walls and a contrasting ceiling, the space visually stretches upward. Soft powder tones as accents help complete the look.

More Mirrors
Due to optical illusion, mirrors can visually expand the space and make it brighter. If placed correctly, mirrors reflect natural light from windows — an important detail when furnishing small rooms.
Designers also often use mirror furniture and decor in their projects — they do a great job with this function too.

Focus on Minimalism
When choosing furniture, calculate how it will look in the space and how much area it will take up. It's better to draw a floor plan to understand the layout clearly. If there is very little space, storage systems should be hidden — you can dedicate an entire wall to this purpose.
The bed shouldn't occupy all the space, and it should have a small headboard (or no headboard at all) — visually this will lighten the interior. Models on thin legs and with minimal details also look great.
With decoration, it's better not to overdo it — too many small details on a small area can turn into chaos.

Plan the Lighting
If you limit yourself to just one ceiling light fixture, shadows will gather in the corners of the room — making the space seem even smaller. Soft light from sconces or pendant lights adds warmth to the space and distracts attention from the modest area.
Pro tip: using long pendant lights can even visually raise a low ceiling. Position them near a low bed to enhance the effect.

Create an Accent Wall
This is another technique that diverts attention from the tiny area and adds depth to the space. Pay attention to how abstract prints work, as in Olga Voynova's project bedroom. It creates a sense of the space continuing behind the wall, making the small room appear larger.
