Small bathrooms — a big discomfort? Not necessarily! In this post, we bring you the latest solutions for compact bathrooms, plus a new product — bathtub + shower

We reviewed innovative products, found out which techniques are actively used by Russian designers, and collected successful ideas for decorating small bathrooms.

VERTICAL STORAGEIf square meters are in short supply, it's better to use the walls up to the ceiling by installing cabinets, shelves, and hooks.TOUCH MATERIALSIn a small bathroom, you often lean against the walls, plumbing, and furniture. It's important that they are pleasant to touch.FUNCTIONALITYIn compact bathrooms, it's barely possible to fit everything you'd like. A bathtub with shelves or a toilet with bidet function will help.Photo: Modern bathroom, Tips, Duravit, small bathroom, small bathroom design, WonderGliss – photo on our websiteDesign: Concept 58What's new: 3 innovative solutions for compact bathrooms

Towel warmer with shelf

If you choose such a model, you won't need to mount an additional shelf for bath textiles. Besides, towels and robes taken from such a shelf are always warm.

Tile imitating wallpaper

In trend are "living" bathrooms and "living" decor: wicker baskets, curtains, or mats that are easy to imagine in a living room or bedroom. Large-format tile imitating wallpaper, combined with a wall-to-wall mirror, will transform a small bathroom into a spacious one.

Bathtub + Shower

The product "Shower + Bath" was developed in collaboration with Austrian designers EOOS. It's both a shower and a full bathtub, offering a place to sit and use a shelf for small items.

Duravit created Shower + Bath especially for spaces where every centimeter should be used to its fullest. With such plumbing, you can take both a refreshing shower and a bath in candles, or bathe children without worrying about water splashing onto the floor, open shelves, or your washing machine.

Also, Shower + Bath is an optimal solution for large families and individuals who want to have both a shower cabin and a bathtub in their bathroom but can't afford it due to small area or modest budget. The compact dimensions of this new product — only 170×75 cm — allow placing it even in the smallest bathroom.

How Russian designers decorate compact bathrooms: 5 ideas to note

In the project of a compact bathroom in an apartment by the Baltic Sea, Marina Kuznetsova covered the wall with large-format tile, combining it with paint. Asymmetry in finishing, lighting, and a sink with a handle added dynamism and air to the space.

Designers from Prosvirin Design couldn't avoid the trendy tile terrazzo and used it in the design of a Moscow single-room bathroom. But the main thing here is not the tile, but maximizing vertical storage and built-in systems — even a washing machine was hidden.

Designer Nikita Zub isn't afraid of experiments and believes that black color is not a taboo for compact bathrooms. Indeed, a total black look with white contrasts in the form of floor, ceiling, ceramics, and towels makes the bathroom space bright, fresh, and not cramped at all.

Tile and paint, pedestal sink, open and closed storage next to the shower — classic for small bathrooms. Designers from Legkocom know this and successfully applied these techniques in decorating a Moscow single-room bathroom.

In the project of a bathroom in a St. Petersburg two-bedroom apartment, Tatiana Voroncova made a bet on bright blue accents in combination with tile imitating Gzhel painting and calm gray color. She also didn't hesitate to choose compact items — a narrow towel warmer and a washing machine with vertical loading.

Use not only compact plumbing and furniture but also electric appliances

"Hotel-style" hair dryers with wall-mounted stands will save space on shelves, while mini-boilers and compact washing machines will save room for the shelves themselves.

But if you can dry your hair with a hairdryer in the bedroom, move the washing machine to the kitchen, and a boiler is not needed in every house, the most important thing is to choose compact plumbing and furniture.

Think about anti-stain coatings

Compact bathrooms are places with a high concentration of steam, water, and dust, so cleaning in them has to be done more often.

Help with daily life will come from anti-stain coatings — transparent hydrophobic compositions that prevent dirt from accumulating on surfaces of washbasins, toilets, and shower glass.

It's definitely worth investing in such a coating: for example, plumbing with anti-stain WonderGliss coating by Duravit only needs to be wiped with a damp cloth.

Make a bet on built-in storage systems

The best option is to design them on order, planning storage according to your personal needs. Another option is to choose a sleek and spacious vanity unit under the washbasin and a cabinet.

Don't get carried away with decoration

Minimalism and simplicity are the best friends of small bathrooms.
