During planning, the following are determined:

• number of floors;
• presence of additional structures;
• existence of basements;
• layout and room purposes;
• heating system;
• interior and exterior finishing options;
• building material;
• connection method for utilities;
• construction technology, and more.

Planning also helps determine soil type and groundwater level, allowing for the proper foundation type to be selected.

After obtaining official construction approval, you can begin building the house.

If you are doing the construction yourself, first purchase high-quality materials according to the project specifications. Then begin with foundation construction, log wall assembly, and roof installation. A simpler alternative is building frame structures.

If you decide to use professional help from a construction company, trust experts who:

• purchase materials;
• prepare components and deliver them to the site;
• lay the foundation;
• assemble log walls;
• erect the roof.

After the structure is assembled, you must wait for settling.

IMPORTANT! The settling process typically takes 6–24 months. The duration depends on the building material used. For example, a house built from modern glued laminated timber settles in 4–6 months. A traditional log cabin may settle over 2–3 years.

After settling, insulate the house from inside and outside. Packing insulation into inter-log gaps provides initial thermal insulation. Next, perform sanding, impregnation, and painting.

Finishing a house built from natural wood is not mandatory. However, you should treat walls, openings, floors, and roof with antiseptics and paints/varnishes to preserve the natural beauty of wood.

You may also use modern materials based on design plans.

Interior finishes can include:

• wooden cladding;
• gypsum board structures;
• plastic;
• tile;
• combination of materials.

• board and batten;

Each option has pros and cons. There are no limits to wood house finishing if your budget allows!

A key point is utility connection. It's ideal if your new home can connect to existing networks.

If existing water, heating, or gas systems are unavailable, these must be addressed during the planning stage.

For example, lack of gas can be replaced by electricity. A private drinking water system can be installed by building a well on the property.

The heating system is also selected by the designer. The main goal is accurate pipe diameter calculation and proper installation to ensure system efficiency.
