An expert on space organization tells you which option to choose. Tips are relevant for apartment owners of any size

There is a myth that you need a lot of space to set up a wardrobe, and a closet is a budget solution that everyone can afford. We decided to find out from an expert on space organization whether this is true.

How much space do you need for a wardrobe?

The size of the wardrobe should be calculated based on the bedroom's square footage. If you have less than three square meters, it's better to install a spacious closet.

Many think that a wardrobe requires a lot of space, but modern options are so mobile that they look like wardrobes from the outside and are functional and convenient inside.

In such storage systems, you can use curtains instead of doors: they are cheaper and visually make the bedroom's interior lighter and more spacious.

A significant advantage of wardrobes over closets is their capacity.

When using closets, part of the wall and space above the ceiling remain unused. However, when installing a wardrobe system, the entire space from floor to ceiling is filled, creating additional storage space — like lofts. Here you can store items rarely used: sports gear, off-season clothes, spare pillows and blankets, suitcases, Christmas decorations, and a Christmas tree.

Wardrobe capacity also increases with sliding modules and baskets. Therefore, clothes here are well-ventilated, and the visibility of contents is much better than in a closet. When setting up, you can buy modules for belts, ties, and accessories — this is more convenient than trying to fit everything on shelves in a closet.

For those who love open storage, wardrobes are the perfect choice.

Wardrobes are great for storing shoes — you can install special sliding shelves in two types (for shoes with heels and flat-soled shoes).

Pro Tip

To make a wardrobe look like the images on Pinterest, hang clothes on hangers in order from longest to shortest, from heaviest to lightest, and from darkest to lightest (within each category). Store the rest in baskets or organizers in a consistent style.

Summing up: Which one to choose?

Opt for modern mobile storage systems. They are functional and spacious, can be used in any room or location (even in attic spaces).

They are easy to transform according to your needs and can be dismantled for moving to a new place. Moreover, setting up a small wardrobe may cost less than buying a closet.
