Any bathroom can be brought to a decent appearance. See for yourself how Russian designers did it

Bathroom renovation often involves dismantling partitions, finishing materials, and replacing all utilities. But don't despair: owners of apartments in this selection gave their utility rooms a second life with the help of professionals.

Bathroom with Washing Machine in Khrushchyovka

Marina Merenkova had to work hard with the layout of a bathroom in a tiny apartment in a Khrushchyovka flat. The previous owners had a self-made construction from a cast iron radiator with a tap hanging where the towel rack was supposed to be, and the toilet stood almost right next to the washing machine, making it inconvenient to use.

"We installed a special sink with a flat trap over the washing machine and freed up space for the toilet. The most unexpected thing was the box in the bathroom. We all, including builders, thought that it contained the risers. But when we started demolition, we found out it was part of a load-bearing wall, and the risers were located in neighbors' apartments. We had to get acquainted with our neighbors," — the designer recounts.

Bathroom with Bathtub in Stalin-era Building

Before the renovation, the tiny bathroom in a Stalin-era flat left no chance for placing a washing machine and boiler. Designer Natalia Solo expanded the area by using the corridor and chose a unified color palette to enhance the sense of space.

Bathroom Redesign in an Old Brick House

As a result of a radical redesign of the apartment in a brick house, designers from Mikhail Novinsky's studio created two bathrooms instead of one. The interior is unrecognizable: instead of plain beige walls, they used gray "pig" and concrete-like tiles, adding color with blue paint.

Merged Bathroom in Stalin-era Building

During the renovation, complications arose: employees from the gas service did not allow relocating the gas water heater, as pipes in the bathroom led to neighbors. Therefore, Marina Merenkova kept the unit in its original spot but moved the mixers to the opposite wall. Above the installation and opposite the toilet, the designer provided storage cabinets for household items.

Standard Bathroom Without Redesign

In this bathroom, designer Maria Bezrukova opted not to redesign and kept the standard furniture layout. However, they chose multifunctional furniture: a mirror-cabinet and a sink with a cabinet for storage.
