Secrets of Professionals: Where to Spend Money for a Expensive-Looking Renovation
An expensive-looking renovation and an expensive renovation are sometimes two completely different things. Let's explore with designers what details you should pay attention to so you don't overdo the 'luxury' and get a harmonious and impressive interior.
Flooring
The floor is often the foundation of an interior. It's one of those renovation expenses where it's really worth spending money both from an aesthetic and practical standpoint. Quality flooring should be both beautiful and durable.
"When a home has natural material flooring, you can easily save on a carpet. Walking on such a floor is pure pleasure," - Claudio Luchenko asserts. In one of her recent projects, the designer used travertine tile under marble and oak engineered wood in other rooms.
Tip from INMYROOM: Exclusive materials are usually found in special catalogs or ordered abroad. But it's much more convenient to select the right flooring by viewing it in person and comparing it with samples of other finishing materials – wallpapers, wall panels – and furniture. And now this is possible!
The trading complex "Kashirsky Dvor" has opened a trade gallery Premio. Here are interior boutiques of leading European manufacturers of finishing materials and furniture showrooms. The assortment is wide: in Premio you can find trendy and classic items, thanks to which your interior will look expensive and modern. Moreover, choosing timeless finishes will save you money – you won't have to redo the renovation for many years.

Lighting Fixtures
One interesting detail can set the tone for the entire interior. Such an accent can be an original and expensive light fixture, as in Anna Krapivko's project. Unusual metallic spheres inlaid with cut glass look as if they were recently purchased at a New York antique store. Yet the democratic finish of the rest of the interior harmonizes with this.

Plumbing Fixtures
An unusual bathtub or sink will draw attention from an experienced aesthetic faster than the most expensive marble tile. Sophisticated forms or an interesting faucet design will add more gloss to the interior than a gold bathtub. This principle is followed by Maria Polyanska. In one of her projects, in an ascetic bathroom, all the emphasis is placed on beautiful plumbing fixtures.

Wall Finishing
An accent in interior decoration can be made using finishing materials with modest furniture. An example of such a solution is the project by designers Ileda By. In one space, they managed to find room for mirrors, paint, and geometric tiles on the walls, as well as bright floors in marble with green veins. It looks modern and expensive.

Texture and Color
The pinnacle of skill is making an interior look expensive by choosing the right combination of textures and colors. This requires planning everything down to the smallest detail. The main rule: define what will be the background and what will be the accent, and don't try to combine all expensive items in an interior at once.
"Walls and furniture are specifically made as a background for decor and paintings – the owner collects art. The canvases are placed on a commode with American walnut veneer and lacquer, which pairs beautifully with the unusual chair. The color tones in the paintings are echoed in abstract drawings on the rug," - designers from Home Emotions explained how they applied this rule in a four-room Moscow apartment.
