Even on a small balcony, you can organize convenient storage systems and a cozy relaxation area. Don't let this precious space disappear under a mountain of unnecessary items.

During winter, balconies often turn into storage for items, many of which should be sent to the dump long ago. Now is the time to tidy up your balcony and prepare it for spring. Follow our tips and don't delay cleaning until later.

Remove all items

Before starting the cleaning, you need to take out all items from the balcony. If there's too much clutter and you can't do it in one go, set yourself a goal - dedicate at least five minutes daily to cleaning.

This way, you will gradually free the balcony from unnecessary items, solve what to throw away, what to keep, and which items can be sold. After you've cleared the balcony of excess, sweep up large trash into a bag and vacuum all accessible surfaces.

Wash surfaces

Wet cleaning should begin with windows. It's better to do this on cloudy weather, when direct sunlight doesn't hit the glass and it doesn't heat up. Otherwise, the cleaning solution will dry quickly, leaving soap streaks on the glass.

First, wipe the frame, then clean the glass from the inside to assess how much dirt has accumulated on the outside. Clean the window top-down, avoiding circular motions that leave streaks. Finally, rinse the glass with clean water and dry it with a paper towel or microfiber cloth.

Now you can move to the floor. Choose a cleaning product depending on the floor covering. Most dust accumulates on skirting boards, so pay special attention to them.

If the balcony is not enclosed, wash the railings and wrought iron fence. If old paint has peeled off, remove it with a metal brush and repaint the railings.

Organize storage systems

Before storing, thoroughly wash all items from dirt and dust. A closed built-in cabinet is the most universal way to store things on a balcony or loggia.

But if you don't want the cabinet to "eat up" space, install an open shelf. Shelves can remain open or be covered with a compact sliding screen or hung curtains.

For large items like a bicycle, snowboard, or sleds, use wall hooks or special mounting systems. Various small items such as paintbrushes can be placed in compact hanging organizers or plastic containers on the shelf.

Additional storage space can be arranged in a bench with a flip-up seat or a sofa with extendable drawers. Functional furniture will allow you to store cans of preserves and construction tools in order and cleanliness, as well as create a cozy atmosphere.

Make the balcony cozy

Create a small dining corner using a compact table and a pair of chairs. Folding furniture works best for balconies, as it can be easily removed when needed to free up space. A hanging chair also doesn't take much space and looks great in any interior.

On a narrow loggia, you can install a wide windowsill that serves as a dining table or bar counter. To visually increase the area, paint the walls and railings in light tones.

Complete the interior with plants. For this, you can use the ceiling - place flower pots on hanging systems to save space on shelves and tables. Flowers can also be placed in planters mounted on the balcony railings.

Great additions would be cozy lighting. These can include outdoor string lights suitable for year-round use, artificial candles, glowing figurines, or even garden lanterns.
