House in Rustic Style in Spain
Two sisters decided to turn the old warehouse, which nobody was using anymore, into a perfect countryside retreat home. The project turned out to be just right: one of the ladies—Natalia—is a professional designer. Dolores is the inspiration and support group all in one.
The sisters completely transformed the interior and exterior of the warehouse. They added a balcony and veranda, installed a staircase, and secured floor slabs for the second floor. They chose to keep the exposed stone walls and wooden ceiling beams—these became key elements in the home's interior design.
The interior of the house can be described as rustic style: lots of wood, stone, woven furniture, and natural finishes. The wooden beams, stone walls, tree stumps used as chairs, and rough-cut boards for tables and benches blend beautifully in the warehouse space.
Almost all furniture in the house, especially tables, chairs, and kitchen cabinets, is made from pine. To protect wooden surfaces from moisture, they were coated with an invisible micro-cement solution. This coating preserves the wood texture while making it wear-resistant.
Interior items were handmade by Dolores and Natalia. For example, there is a mirror in the bedroom with an old window serving as its frame. The coat rack is a restored staircase that was originally in the warehouse. The frame of the children's bunk bed is made from wooden beams.
What’s interesting is that the bedroom and bathroom are one space, separated only by a wardrobe. The sisters used the oddly shaped—too long—room to maximize space.
The highlight of the house is the open veranda. It's a true forest fairy tale: a wooden table, a bench supported by oak tree stumps, and even flower pots!
