We dispel the myth that fireplaces can only be installed in large apartments. Together with an expert, we explain why you won't have to pay extra for electricity

Everyone loves fireplaces, but not everyone knows they can be installed in any apartment—even a small one. We asked an expert from Electrolux to tell us how to choose a fireplace correctly. And we learned why you don't need to worry about safety or electricity bills.

What to pay attention to when choosing?
The most important things are size and functionality. For small rooms, compact thin models that can be mounted on the wall—these don't take up much space. For larger apartments or country homes, portal fireplaces with stone framing are ideal.

Of course, the appearance isn't the only thing that matters—it's also about power. To help you decide, keep in mind this formula: a device with 900–1800 W of power can heat a room up to 23 square meters, and devices with 1000–2000 W of power can heat up to 25 square meters.

What other features can electric fireplaces have besides heating?
Modern fireplaces can do more than just heat: they can simulate the flame of a fire and the sound of crackling logs to fully immerse you in a country atmosphere.

These features are available on all Electrolux electric fireplaces: you can turn off the heating and enjoy a beautiful image, imagining yourself in a cozy little cabin deep in the forest. You can also adjust the brightness of the flame to create a more intimate ambiance.

Is it safe? How much energy does a fireplace consume?
Yes! Fireplaces use modern needle-like heating elements that provide fast and safe heating. The front panel of the fireplace is made from impact-resistant glass, so even if it falls, no one will get hurt. All you need to do for your safety is keep the fireplace clean, and it will last a long time.

You also don't need to worry that your electricity bills will skyrocket. Modern fireplaces with power from 900 to 2000 W can work in two modes. If you use the lowest setting, you can save electricity. If you only use the flame mode and turn off heating, energy consumption drops to 6–10 W.

Where to install a fireplace and how to do it?
A fireplace can be easily installed in any room where devices with 220 V power supply can be used. The only exceptions are rooms with high humidity, such as bathrooms or pools.

Otherwise, consider the layout and placement of furniture: the front part of the fireplace heats up, so don't place it near other items or on carpets with long pile.

Also consider ceiling height: wall-mounted fireplaces should be installed at least 60 cm from the bottom edge of the unit to the floor. Leave at least 100 cm between the top of the unit and any ceiling or item above it.

Anyone can install a portal fireplace—no special skills are required. All you need is the instruction manual and a standard set of tools that everyone has at home.

For example, wall-mounted fireplaces can be easily mounted on brackets that usually come with the unit. You just need to make holes in the wall. If you're unsure of your abilities, you can always call a professional.

How to choose a portal?
First, determine the size of the hearth based on room area and ceiling height, then select a suitable surround for it.

Consider the color palette and style of your interior, as well as the materials you like. For example, Electrolux hearths can be beautifully framed in any decorative portal made from MDF with finishes of natural veneer, enamel, stone, or eco-leather.
