Interior with Beautiful Lighting: Apartment in Malmö
Originally, this 129-square-meter apartment in Swedish Malmö had six separate rooms, which was likely practical during the house's construction in the late 1800s.
However, when it came time for renovation, the smallest bedroom was converted into a wardrobe, and the layout of the kitchen, living room, and another room was merged into a spacious common area, enhanced with an electric fireplace. This allowed the layout to be updated and adapted to the needs of modern residents.

The interior design work followed a typical Scandinavian approach: walls were painted white, natural wood floors were laid, a functional kitchen was planned, and neutral furniture was arranged.
Printed carpets, paintings, and posters, plants in large pots, and a vintage cabinet with a rich blue hue that stood out beautifully against the white walls were used as decorative elements.

On the spacious common area with plenty of furniture and decorative elements, it's not immediately obvious how much thought went into the lighting systems. But once it gets dark outside and all local light sources are turned on, the apartment transforms and looks completely different.

Still, overhead lighting is also used: chandeliers above the dining table and pendant lights in the kitchen and living room were selected with dimmers. The light from bulbs set to minimum brightness is comfortable for the eyes and fits perfectly into the relaxed atmosphere in the evening.

Soft light from the chandeliers is complemented by table lamps and furniture lighting. By the way, kitchen spotlights maintain a pleasant semi-darkness just as well as wall sconces and other lighting fixtures with gentle glow.

Besides artificial lighting, designers actively used the 'live' light, as is often practiced in Sweden. The flames of long candles in candleholders with various designs and the glow of the fireplace make the 'evening' interior cozy and complete.
