Designers, architects and decorators were asked to predict which colors or prints, furniture or materials will become less popular in the new year

Designers and architects cautiously approach long-term forecasts: it's easy to assume that brick in interior design or botanical prints will go out of style, as they only strengthen their positions. Still, one can assess which trends are less frequently featured at international design exhibitions and used in projects by the most renowned masters.

Time to Say Goodbye:

  • metal of one tone;
  • grey and white marble
  • smooth glossy finishes in decoration.

What to Replace With:

  • different metals in one interior;
  • onyx and artificially painted marble;

Time to Say Goodbye:

  • brickwork;
  • polygons in tile or light fixture frames;
  • replicas of famous design items from around the world;
  • patchwork-style tiles of one type and size but with different patterns: geometric, abstract or floral.

What to Replace With:

  • natural materials, no imitation;
  • rounded and oval shapes — designers strive for simplified forms;
  • original items, even if made to order from a less-known designer;
  • monochromatic tiles or repeating patterns.

Time to Say Goodbye:

  • the “jungle” theme — cacti in all their forms, palms and other tropical plants in interiors. At the September Maison & Objet exhibition, stands decorated with this theme were seen less frequently than at previous shows.

What to Replace With:

  • furniture made of glass and acrylic;
  • macramé, woolen items.
