Designer Irina Smirnova shared the main principles of baseboard selection – after all, this seemingly insignificant detail can completely change the character of an interior.

«No» to plastic baseboards

Assembly-disassembly plastic baseboards look unattractive and cheap, and their elements will periodically come off – especially if you have children or pets.

Use wooden, aluminum, MDF, or polyurethane baseboards that can be painted in any color.

Winning solution – high white baseboard

When combined with dark walls, it creates contrast, defines the geometry of the room, and diverts attention from flaws – for example, uneven walls. In a bright interior, a white baseboard visually expands the space and highlights pastel tones.

For narrow rooms – baseboard in floor color

In this case, it is preferable to buy the baseboard together with the flooring – so that the materials are from the same batch and do not differ in shade. This trick visually widens the room.

If low ceilings – baseboard in wall color

It's simple: if you want to visually “lift” the ceiling, paint the walls and baseboard in one shade.

Classic option – in door color

Or in the color of the door frame – and the door itself can be a different shade. In this case, you easily integrate the door into the interior, regardless of its color.
