Paint cornices the same color as walls, abandon moldings and choose bright accessories

Designers from the studio «Point of Design» shared tips for those who love classic design but don't want to live in outdated interiors.

Cornices and moldings

A favorite trick of Parisian apartment designers: classic elements of decoration – massive cornices, baseboards, and moldings – painted in one color with the walls.

As a result, you get a good, classic, minimalist background that can be filled with interesting furniture and lighting fixtures. In this way, you will use stylistic contrast: modern furniture in a calm interior.

Lighting

Modern classic design requires more space, it does not tolerate long narrow corridors and many walls. It is good if the apartment has more natural light – this must be taken into account at the planning stage.

It is acceptable for fixtures to be in gold, but their shape and structure must be simpler. Of course, if you want to make a classic interior «lighter», it is better not to use sparkling chandeliers.

Color

It is better to create the interior color scheme in soft tones. Light colors in finishes help you relax and do not tire you out in a space where you spend a lot of time.

You can also use deep, complex colors – for example, wine-colored, gray, or even matte black shades. By balancing the interior with bright accents, you will get an interesting and un boring atmosphere.

Finishing and Decoration

Use moldings, artistic paintings, or gilding sparingly on walls. Furniture is better to choose not carved but delicate, elegant – possibly even frame-based. At the same time, you can opt for expensive textures like velvet or velour.

Choose natural finishing materials. Try to use marble in small amounts – use it in accessories or bathroom finishes.

For walls, choose a surface with fine texture or wallpapers in a calm palette. Hang mirrors in simple frames, paintings or posters that do not overload the interior. Noble and restrained decoration will help you create a cozy and stylish space.
