Get Rid of Bars: 9 Solutions for First-Floor Windows
Learning to protect yourself from unwanted gazes and intruders
First-floor residents panic about break-ins and curious looks, so they barricade themselves with solid bars and tightly close windows. We are against turning your apartment into a dark prison, so we offer several alternatives.
1. Window Sensors
Naturally, this selection cannot do without this obvious and effective method of protection from intruders. Install window break sensors and alarm systems and sleep peacefully.

2. Protective Film
Unfortunately, glass is a very fragile material, and a skilled intruder can break it with just a small stone. To prevent this, protective film was invented. It's hard to believe, but this thin material can withstand even a shot from a trauma pistol.
Protective film itself is transparent, so it won't protect you from prying eyes – combine it with light-colored Roman shades.

3. Mirror Film
Mirror film not only resists impacts but also protects from passersby's gazes. There are nuances: it reflects sunlight, making the room darker; at night, when lights are on, visibility improves – curtains will still be needed.

4. Matte Film
The next variant of protective film tinting, light and unobtrusive. Unlike the mirror type, matte film won't darken your room.

5. Patterned Film
You can order protective film with a pattern, which serves decorative functions or, if it's colorful and fully covers the window, hides your family's life from outsiders.

6. Blinds
Classic blinds. Don't think they're only for offices – don't deny them convenience and their ability to hide your personal life from others. Besides, many stylish and modern models are now available.

7. Roller Shutters
A convenient device for protection from burglars. When you're at home, you can lower them by 25% or use only light curtains; when away, lower them completely.

8. Wooden Shutters
No, they are not a relic of the past! People still use them because shutters with a good lock are also a means of protection from intruders. By the way, they provide excellent shade on hot days.

9. Sliding Bars
If you're absolutely unwilling to give up the idea of installing bars, at least choose a sliding variant – you can close them at night or during your absence.
