Sources of Light in the Bedroom

In the bedroom, it's desirable to have not just one, but several light sources, each serving a specific purpose. Soft, diffused light is best suited for general bedroom lighting. It calms, promotes relaxation, and creates a cozy atmosphere.

But sometimes we need a different type of light—focused and fairly bright—for example, when reading. We also need sufficient light to get dressed.

The optimal solution is a soft overhead light (chandelier or small fixtures along the ceiling perimeter), combined with two wall sconces or floor lamps near the bed; this setup makes the room more inviting, and readers will appreciate it too. It’s also beneficial if you can adjust the brightness depending on your needs. You can also separately illuminate a dressing table with a mirror and a wardrobe, if it’s located in your bedroom. It’s also important that the light color tone complements the overall room aesthetic.

Chandeliers for the Bedroom

A chandelier in the bedroom shouldn’t be overly flashy or dominate in brightness; its purpose is to provide enough light for getting dressed. If the chandelier is very bright, it’s best if the shade directs light upward or diffuses it naturally. Otherwise, it may prevent relaxation and become irritating. Closed shades made of frosted glass work well for this purpose.

The choice of a chandelier depends entirely on the room’s overall style. It shouldn’t draw all attention to itself, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be beautiful and original. For example, you can decorate it with a shade made of delicate fabric or lace, glass beads, paper or cardboard cutouts that cast intriguing shadows on the walls.

A wrought-iron chandelier with electric candles looks especially elegant in a bedroom. In some cases, a crystal chandelier may also be appropriate, as the light from the bulbs beautifully refracts through its facets, but it’s better if such a chandelier isn’t too large or ostentatious.

It’s not advisable to hang a chandelier directly above the bed, no matter how beautiful it is—enjoy it from a distance instead.

LED Strip Lights in the Bedroom

LED strip lights are increasingly used in various interior designs, and the bedroom is no exception. First, they provide a soft, mysterious glow, ideal for bedroom decor. Second, they are energy-efficient. Third, they don’t collect dust like lampshades do. Many LED strips come with power supplies and adhesive backing, making them quick and easy to install. LED strips are a great option for bedrooms with low ceilings and work especially well in modern-style interiors. Available in various colors, they offer great possibilities for creative experimentation.

You can use LED strips not only on ceilings and walls but also to illuminate furniture (e.g., a wardrobe), mirrors, and the bed headboard. An unusual and striking solution is a glowing LED strip along the floor’s perimeter. You won’t trip if you need to grab a midnight snack!

Lamps and Floor Lamps for the Bedroom

Today, there are many types of lamps and floor lamps suitable for bedroom lighting: pendant, wall-mounted, floor-standing, and built-in into the bed headboard. If you enjoy experimenting, go for the first option. When space-saving is a priority, the latter is the best choice.

There are floor lamps with upward-directed light, resembling a torch flame; due to the direction, the light becomes softer and more diffused. Table lamps for nightstands and side tables, as well as adjustable wall lamps, are always popular, allowing you to change the light direction according to your needs.
