Spring Decorating Ideas: 7 Tips from a Decorator

Tip 1: Clean Up and Remove Overused Decorations

Once you hung a paper lantern on the kitchen wall or stuck temporary stickers on the windows to match the mood? The mood has changed, but the decor hasn't! Old emotions need to be cleaned out, especially with spring approaching. Before decorating your apartment anew, you should always tidy up and do a deep clean.

Don't forget to take off figurines from the dresser and an old yellowed tablecloth from the table – remove decorative elements that irritate you in the most decisive way! Or with a sigh of regret, just like you remove the Christmas tree after winter holidays.

Tip 2: Give New Roles to Old Items

Now think – maybe something from the old decor would look great in a new place and in a new role. Move a rug from the bedroom to the living room – perhaps that way the main room in the house will look a bit softer. Look at wicker baskets on the kitchen counter – let them decorate the hallway or even the bathroom during spring months.

You don't have to move only small items: spring is the perfect time to rearrange furniture! Walk around the house and see what can be taken from one room and placed successfully in another. A chair or shelf from the children's room will decorate the living room, or vice versa.

Tip 3: Look at Things Differently

This follows from the first two tips. Items that can't be saved by moving them from room to room and which, in your opinion, have served their time, can be repainted, fitted with new hardware and used in an unexpected role.

For example, an old creaking chair can become a very creative bookshelf. Elegant spoons can also still serve – for example, as a "storage system" if you bend them and attach them to the wall. The genre classic – a wine rack made from rakes and lights made from jugs.

In other words, you can put fresh vintage from your grandmother in place of boring items. If normally we take what has served its time to the countryside, in this case it's better to bring something from the countryside that we've long grown tired of – and play a little magic with old items.

Tip 4: Redecorate the Interior

Textile is the main thing that helps to dramatically change the mood of the interior! I highly recommend having two textile sets for home: autumn-winter and spring-summer. Our perception of color changes with the season: in winter, when it's cold outside, gray and snowy, we want to warm up, wrap ourselves in something fluffy or knitted, surround ourselves with red, dark green, gold.

As spring approaches, everything changes. We miss the green of grass, bright sunshine, and our eyes want to see fresh colors: shades of young grass and leaves, the color of the first mimosa, azure sky, and all the colors of early spring flowers! Change curtains, cushions on sofas, chair and sofa covers – and looking at all this colorful splendor, you will immerse yourself in the current spring mood.

Tip 5: Make the House a Blooming Oasis

Greenery and live flowers – the main sign that spring has arrived! Now is the perfect time to plant bulbous plants (tulips, hyacinths, daffodils) – in open ground they are too early to sprout, but in beautiful planters at home you must plant them. You will be able to observe every day how spring is approaching. And in just a week or so, you will have a lush indoor flower garden – by the way, very fragrant too.

If you don't have time or mood to mess with bulbs, buy already sprouted plants – they will delight much longer than cut flowers. And closer to summer, you can plant them in the countryside or by the window in the city courtyard.

Tip 6: Watering Cans and Baskets Instead of Vases and Planters

As soon as there are more flowers and leaves, either cut or planted by yourself, the question arises – where to put all this and how to arrange it. Vases and planters are not the least noticeable element of interior design, and you shouldn't neglect them. Many people look at colored glass vases – this is indeed a spring motif, they create an additional sense of airiness and freshness. And they are perfect for cut flowers.

But there is a universal option for bouquets and as planters that allows you not to spend money on new vases – this is a garden watering can or basket. Any garden tool creates an additional spring mood. Because when the last snow melts, we all go to the countryside en masse – even if for some it's not like that, the association is firmly fixed.

Remember that the "countryside" theme will not go well with all interior styles. If you have Provence, loft, shabby chic, cottage, or Scandinavian style – you can confidently use this approach. As an option, you can also place or plant flowers in teapots. And even (for crafters) in vases made from plumbing pipes!

Tip 7: Set the Table with Spring Motifs

If you have space and opportunity to keep a covered dining table, definitely set it! To set the table means already to show care and warmth. If you also put dishes with spring motifs (this can be fresh flowers or floral prints) on the table – such setting will bring joy to your home.

Use ribbons, candles, crystal, colored glass, and all those same fresh spring flowers. Plan decorations in the right color palette. For example, table runners can be made by hand from wire and beads. All these cute little details will create a feeling of celebration, which brings with it the new season. Warmth, love, and spring to you – and your home!
