Productivity depends not only on motivation and mood: a well-organized home office can significantly increase your efficiency and, as a result, your career position and income.

The pace of modern life dictates its own rules – we increasingly start working from home. Therefore, a well-organized office or workspace is simply indispensable. A home office thoughtfully organized according to feng shui is a guarantee of productivity, degree of concentration, inspiration, and as a result, success in your work. A consultant told us how to achieve the desired effect.

Rule #1: Complete Isolation

If you work from home, it is essential to separate the workspace from the living area: it is not advisable to set up a workspace in the bedroom – you will constantly feel like a 'wheel-running hamster' and experience constant fatigue. According to feng shui, yang (active) energy and yin (passive) energy should combine in such a way that their ratio supports the functional purpose of the room and human activity harmoniously.

Since it is often difficult to find a separate space for an office in typical apartments, try at least to isolate the workspace, for example, using a bookcase or screen.

Rule #2: Closer to the Entrance Is Better

In a private house, the office can be located on either the first or second floor. If visitors are expected to come to your office, organize a home office on the first floor near the entrance: this way guests won't enter into family private space.

If visitors are not expected, designate a room for the office that is farther from the living room and dining room but closer than the bedroom or children's room: such positioning supports an optimal balance between yin and yang types of activity.

Under no circumstances should the office be located under a bathroom or toilet: the flow of Chi moves from top to bottom, and thus 'dirty' and unstable energies will have a destructive impact on your work and business.

Rule #3: Directions of Light Also Need to Be Considered

The workspace should be calm but still support your activity and concentration. According to feng shui, the best orientation for an office is facing east, as morning sunlight energy is favorable for thinking processes and reading.

Positioning the office with windows facing north or northeast in the northern hemisphere (south or southeast in the southern hemisphere) creates a calm atmosphere. Facing west will lead to passivity: you'll feel sleepy and your work efficiency will decrease.

Using your personal favorable directions for choosing an office and positioning the desk will further enhance the positive effect and impact your success.

Rule #4: Rest Area and the 'Control' Position

If you have the opportunity to organize a real office, keep in mind that it should not be too cramped or overly spacious. Provide a rest area in your office – place a comfortable chair or sofa in the room, but not a bed. In a private house, if you only work in your home office and it is your main workspace, create a separate entrance: this will help divide domestic and professional life, which is important from the perspective of separating two types of activity – yang (work) and yin (rest).

It is preferable that the shape of the room be regular – this will reflect stable energy in the office. Place your desk in a spot where Chi accumulates most (diagonally from the entrance) so that you can sit with your back to a wall and see both the door and window. This placement is called the 'control position,' where you control circumstances rather than being controlled by them. Avoid placing the desk against a wall with your view blocked by it, or else your prospects, creativity, and overall progress will significantly decrease. If no other placement is possible, hang a picture with perspective on the wall to create a sense of open space.

Rule #5: The Desk Should Be Solid, the Chair Like a Throne

Check that sharp corners are not directed toward you when sitting at your desk. There should be no overhead beams, heavy items, or bookshelves above the desk: these obstacles will weaken you and hinder productive work – you’ll tire more quickly.

The preferred shape of the desk is rectangular, but oval, round, or irregular shapes also suit creative professions. Choose a desk made of solid material, not glass, to maintain the energy of stability and confidence.

Also prefer a chair over a regular stool. The chair should resemble a throne – with a high backrest and comfortable armrests. This aligns with the principle of an ideal home model, where it is protected from behind and sides, while the front is open and free. The chair and desk form the same model of favorable placement but in miniature. In work, it is so important to feel confidence and strength.

Rule #6: Order on the Desk Equals Order in the Mind

Keep only current documents and materials on your desk. Archive documents in time, don’t clutter the desk. This helps energy not stagnate and keeps your work activities active.

Paintings and images in your workspace (if any) should focus on the future and reflect your goals. Decorative elements related to your field of activity and various awards or diplomas are also welcome in the workspace. Remember that office decor should inspire you to new achievements, embody your goals, support your status and professionalism.
