In any home, the living room is, above all, a gathering place for the whole family in the evening or for relaxing with guests. It is, in essence, a public space. Therefore, the design of the living room should be appropriate.

The living room is the heart of the home and its inhabitants.

How the living room interior is decorated can tell a lot about the homeowners. Whether they are lovers of luxury or functional minimalism, whether it's a pragmatic single man, a dreamy young lady, or a large noisy family.

Not only decoration and furniture can make your living room original and unique, but also accessories. Characteristics of any ethnicity or era always become an object of attention and interest. Japanese, Indian, Moroccan, African design styles... Each one will show and convey the character and taste of the owner. The key is not to overdo it with details, unless you consciously want to turn your home into an antique shop or a curiosity store.

For people who love coziness and the element of fire, a fireplace interior would be ideal. Don't worry if you live in an urban apartment and don't have a chimney installed. Today, it's much easier to solve this - electric fireplaces. Electric fireplaces today almost completely recreate the atmosphere of a real fire and bring life to the living room design. The photos below illustrate how harmoniously fireplaces look even in city apartments.

If you like lightness, naturalness, elegance, and a sense of space in the interior, then styles such as cottage, Provence, Mediterranean, and Scandinavian will suit you best. Cottage and Provence styles appeal more to those who enjoy rural simplicity and naturalness. The Scandinavian style is full of light tones and a feeling of spaciousness. Mediterranean style will not overwhelm with pomp, but will delight with comfort.

Lovers of luxury, paintings in gilded frames, and sophistication will surely appreciate the styles of baroque, art deco, classicism, empire, and Victorian. Those who decide to create the living room design by themselves should remember that you are creating the room primarily for yourself. Therefore, always rely on your own preferences and personal taste. Do not blindly follow any particular style without question. Do not be afraid to add something of your own. The most important thing is that the chosen design appeals to you and your family members personally.

Some simple rules that will help you:

  • Light colors visually expand the space.
  • Well-placed mirrors can make the room appear more spacious.
  • Overloading with furniture and accessories creates a feeling of crowding.
  • Equip the room with several light sources, in addition to the standard chandelier, to control lighting (from daylight to romantic dimness).
  • Room zoning can be done with the same lighting, gypsum board structures, light screens and partitions, bookshelves. Also, floor coverings can help.
  • The bedroom area in the living room is better placed away from doors, in the quietest corner.
  • Open bookshelves collect more dust but give a feeling of more open space.
