Kitchen Design for a Country House. Simple and Ergonomic. What Should the Kitchen Design Be Like?

Kitchen design for a country house should be as simple and ergonomic as possible.

Here are several tips that can help when arranging the kitchen of a country house.

  • Minimize space. Try to use more vertical space than horizontal. By raising cabinets up the wall (if mounting allows), you will save not only space but also time for dusting.
  • A four-burner stove is not necessary. Use a two-burner cooktop instead. This way, you can save on the depth of the kitchen cabinet and instead of the usual 60 cm depth, install 40 cm or even less − reduce the depth to 35 cm.
  • A large refrigerator is not suitable for a country house where you spend up to 30 days a year. Option one: storing food in a basement during winter or a portable ice-cooled refrigerator in summer. A more convenient option: purchasing a small-capacity refrigerator (similar to the format of bar refrigerators in hotels).
  • Instead of a square sink, choose a narrow elongated one. Its advantage is not only in saving surface depth but also that plates placed in the sink won't block the water drain.
  • If possible, combine the surface for cooking food with the surface for serving prepared dishes, making it portable. This approach saves not only kitchen space but also dining room space.
  • Golden rule: the fewer standalone elements on the kitchen, the more compact and functional it is (this rule also applies to the previous point). Try to arrange all kitchen furniture under one wall or, at worst, in a G-shaped layout. This rule also allows you to rotate less on the kitchen floor: in front of you is one surface with everything gathered: from forks and spoons to pans and containers with leftover buckwheat.
  • If discussing the organization of a summer kitchen space, pay more attention to the placement of the table than the kitchen cabinet. In this case, the principle of combining surfaces described in point 4 can also be effective.
