The Whisper of Design in Harmony with Nature

Among swaying palms and gentle breezes San Miguel do Gostoso, the Sussurro House by architect Davide Andracco Architetto redefines coastal life through contemporary design deeply rooted in the tropical environment. In line with its name—Sussurro, meaning whisper in Italian—the house speaks softly through light, texture and proportions, creating a dialogue between architecture and nature.

Designed for an Italian-Brazilian family, this 283 square meter home balances elegance, comfort and sustainability. Oriented east-west to capture Atlantic tropical breezes and natural light, it embraces passive cooling and soft lighting throughout the day.

Modern Composition by the Shore

The architecture unfolds in three distinct volumes, each defining the spatial and visual rhythm of the house:

  • The heart of the home is a spacious living and dining area with an island kitchen—a bright communal center under a 3.6-meter ceiling. This light-filled space seamlessly connects to the street through large windows, promoting family interaction and a smooth transition between interior and exterior spaces.

  • The central stone volume houses service areas and installations, distinguished by a contrast of materials and slight height variation. Its local stone finish provides the structure with a natural foundation.

  • The private section includes three bedrooms and an additional living room, each offering privacy, independence and close connection to light and views.

Together, these zones create a sequence of experiences, from communal gatherings to private retreats, all defined by a gentle breeze and filtered light that shape coastal living.

The Language of Materials: Texture, Light and Craftsmanship

Davide Andracco fills the house with a restrained color palette that celebrates both Mediterranean and Brazilian sensibilities. The project is based on local craftsmanship and natural materials to achieve timelessness and authenticity.

The walls are 60 cm thick, built from two layers for improved thermal and acoustic insulation. Handcrafted ironwork, 2.5 meters high, allows abundant light and air flow while adding a handmade character. The light gray micro-textured floor reflects natural light and complements the minimalist interior, while the neutral palette enhances spatial calmness and visual continuity.

The external stone volume, reminiscent of Andracco's Mediterranean heritage, contains bathrooms and technical areas. This sculptural element strengthens the composition and contrasts with the soft concrete and plaster finishes of the house.

The Living Terrace: Threshold Between Inside and Outside

A spacious terrace surrounds the main living area, creating an open space for dining, relaxation and gatherings. Supported by projecting beams, it frames views of a garden rich in local Brazilian flora, adding greenery, shade and movement to daily life.

The flat roof and panoramic terrace complete the structure, offering elevated views of tropical nature—a serene platform for morning meditation or evening contemplation.

Climate-Adaptive and Context-Oriented Design

From orientation to material selection, the Sussurro House is a model of context-sensitive architecture. Its layout maximizes airflow, solar shading and thermal insulation, ensuring year-round comfort without mechanical systems.

Every design decision—from window placement to the balance between body and void—reflects a desire to blend with the landscape rather than dominate it. The result is a living space that is both luxurious and sustainable—a sanctuary aligned with the rhythm of coastal life.

Mediterranean Spirit in a Brazilian Landscape

Through the Sussurro House, architect Davide Andracco Architetto connects the purity of Mediterranean aesthetics with Brazilian vibrancy. The project offers new expressions of tropical modernism—a architecture as whisper, gentle yet powerful in its dialogue with nature.
