Puerto Killo House by Estudio Base Arquitectos

Estudio Base Arquitectos was recently featured in our catalog for the Patagonia Complex project on the southern outskirts of Chile, and now returns with the Puerto Killo House — a small beach house located in central Chile. This compact dwelling is almost entirely made of wood, thanks to its ability to withstand the marine climate.

Puerto Killo House by Estudio Base Arquitectos in Navidad, Chile

Situated at the top of Puerto Killo, a small beach in central Chile within the Navidad area; this combination of fields and sea stands out as a hidden paradise for surfers, offering the chance to enjoy the ocean, forests and nature.

The house is located on very steep slopes facing northwest. The strategy was to create various terraces to take advantage of the site's morphology. All fences are oriented toward the shore that leads into the sea.

It is almost entirely made of wood, thanks to its advantages in withstanding marine climate. A 1.4-inch thick dry pine finish was used for the chamber to achieve a better external appearance and longevity over time, installed as a ventilated façade system. We applied black paint to the entire exterior so that the house blends into the landscape and hides among vegetation.

With a volume comprising two large public and private zones, it is distributed across three levels: the first level with access to living/dining room and bedrooms, the lower level with basements and covered terraces that protect from sun and wind in summer; they are directly connected to the inner courtyard, and the third level — the roof of the house with an inhabitable terrace that allows enjoying all panoramic views from the spot; especially the horizon, valley and canyon view to the sea.
